The survey found 60 percent of eligible voters back additional construction against just seven percent who are opposed, with a majority also backing a ban on short-haul flights which can be covered by rail in less than two and a half hours. A new 171-mile high-speed line linking San Francisco and Los Angeles is currently being built by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which hopes to later extend it to Sacramento and San Diego. Separately work began in April on a new 218-mile high-speed railway between Las Vegas in Nevada and southern California. In Texas there are proposals for two new high-speed lines connecting Dallas to both Houston and Fort Worth, though they remain in the preliminary stages.

Should this project come to fruition, #Augusta must push hard to be a relevant node within this network. Not doing so would be a repeat of the same long term strategic blunders made with the rail and interstate systems. If we are not a central part of the network of how people move, our community will be left behind. Current plans, at best show Augusta as an outlying regional point connected to Athens and Columbia, not a high speed connection point. The plan does not easily connect us to Savannah, Charleston, Greenville, Charlotte, Macon, or even Atlanta. Do you want our city to forever be a peripheral spoke, or do you want to be a key intersection for the next 100 years of the Southeast?

Planning is underway to restore a 45-year-defunct regional passenger rail line connecting southern Montana to Billings and Amtrak’s east-west Empire Builder line from Seattle to Chicago. The Big Sky Rail Authority has confirmed plans for two passenger rail routes through Montana, according to Missoula media outlet 8KPAX. Update for the I-4 Corridor Today, June 14th, the Sun Coast Transportation Planning Alliance and Central Florida MPO Alliance will discuss expanding passenger rail service along the I-4 corridor to tackle our region’s rapid growth and traffic. This resolution supports adding Brightline's new rail line and boosting Amtrak services between Tampa Bay and Orlando. Despite past funding challenges, the vision for a connected super-region stays strong. Governor DeSantis plans to reserve space on I-4 for train service, but state grants won’t directly support Brightline. Orlando officials are also working on expanding SunRail to key spots, which could cost over $4 billion. This effort ties in with FDOT's $2.4 billion project to improve I-4 over the next 10 years. With the right planning and investment, we can create safe, reliable, and efficient transportation options to support our growing population and economy.
