Why have I dedicated my life to helping #Founders develop their business in other countries and then enter the #USMarket? Because problems solved elsewhere very often exist in massive numbers here in the #USA. Launching successfully in the USA is a financial springboard to more countries and solving the problem #globally. But, launching into the US Market can wreck the financial stability of a business. There are too many #unspokenrules that take too long and too much money to learn. Industries and regions each have their own quirky rules and deal structures. #Fundraising to gain more time and more reach can be a bear. It's a lonely road for Founders. Day 16 of #BlackHistoryMonth Aerospace edition. You'll start seeing more people I've had the honor to work with. Today belongs to Dr. Quincy Kissiedu-Brown- scientist, professor and member of the National Space Council. I was introduced to Dr. Quincy Brown by Paige Hendrix Buckner with a simple question: Do I know of any Black founders of space startups? Together, we could come up with less than five. Dr. Brown is Director of Space STEM and Workforce Policy at the White House National Space Council. She is seeking to develop new career pathways for space workers, particularly those historically underserved. She brought together a wide array of organizations in Washington DC last year to identify the variety of roles needed to support the New Space industry. I saw it with my own eyes. Today you either need to be an astronaut or engineer to work in space. Tomorrow it will take many more roles- all kinds of trades, legal experts, designers, the whole gamut. Dr. Brown is bringing space industry partners with organizations that can connect people to those roles. She's literally building the workforce of the future. Dr. Brown has used her science background to teach kids, to make policy, and to invent new jobs for the future. She did this through public service. You too could serve. My wife jokes that I know exactly how long Pluto's orbit around the sun is, but I have no clue where the powdered sugar is in our kitchen. I am a space nerd. Pluto completes an orbit around the sun in about 248 earth years. And probably to be honest… I am still looking for the powdered sugar in our kitchen 😀. When I learned that there is an event titled - “_Uniquely Entrepreneurial: Space & the Pacific Northwest_” I was over the Moon and back flipping with excitement! I signed up! And showed up. I had the incredible honor of meeting K. Sivan, the esteemed former Chairman of ISRO, during his visit to our institution. His insights into ISRO's forthcoming ventures were enlightening, unveiling a myriad of opportunities in the space industry. Mr. Sivan's discourse on ISRO's future initiatives shed light on the organization's innovative strides. The discussion encompassed diverse facets, ranging from upcoming satellite missions to pioneering interplanetary explorations, underscoring ISRO's commitment to pushing boundaries in space exploration. What particularly resonated with me was the dialogue surrounding the role of private startups in the space sector beyond rocket building and satellite launches. I seized the opportunity to inquire about fostering non-commoditized products for the market once these foundational milestones are achieved. Mr. Sivan's perspective on encouraging private enterprises to delve into creating unique offerings beyond conventional space technologies was inspiring. His emphasis on leveraging advancements in satellite technology for societal benefits through novel applications was truly thought-provoking.
