With the Tour de France fast approaching, Tom Wieckowski and Dan Lorang highlighted a crucial insight: 'The team that keeps their top rider the coolest is going to win'. Dan's relationship with CORE dates back to the founding story when Wulf Glatz identified an opportunity to assist one of Dan's many athletes, Sarah True. Dan is not only a remarkable partner but also an exceptional human being, and what I believe to be one of the all-time great coaches in endurance sport history. It is a true privilege and joy to collaborate with and glean insights from individuals like Dan and the broader BORA – hansgrohe organization. Thank you Dan, and best of luck to you and the team in this year's Tour. #sportstech #toudefrance #trainhotracecool #corebodytemp #corebodytemperature #sportscience

Look forward to watching the TdF with this in mind.

Great article! The core body temperature of a GC leader entering the last climb determines the effort he can spend on it and probably has a strong correlation with the result. But all the factors that lead up to this value are what makes cycling such a fascinating team sport. Some of those factors are individual (fitness level, heat dissipation capacity, cycling skills), some are environmental (temperature, humidity, irradiation), some are equipment-dependent (bike, helmet, clothing), or competition-dependent (race situation, attacks, alliances), or team-dependent, of the domestiques (execution of strategy and tactics, delivery of nutrition, cooling and mental support to the leader, amount and level of efforts "buffered" for the leader) or the staff (supply of nutrition, hydration, cooling, strategy, tactics, motivation). As Ross stated while the CORE sensor can only support with few of the individual factors (heat dissipation, thermal performance of gear, cooling strategies), it will also indicate how well the sum of all factors has played out and lets rider and staff gauge the overall state of the rider and allow to adjust tactics in the race as well as preparation and strategies for future races. Can’t wait for the TdF!
