I recently joined a group of dedicated Canadians who all worried about mobility and public transit across Ontario as part of TVO's The Agenda, where we discussed the challenges Ontarians face with traveling within the province. While there are bright spots, we can look at a city like Tokyo where 80% of its citizens take transit and see that there is still much room for improvement in Toronto and across Canada where the opposite is true and less than 20% of citizens take transit regularly. Where car culture and car-based urban design predominates, our economic productivity declines and atrophies. Watch the full discussion below with Wendy Landry, Éric Boutilier, Eric Miller and Steve Paikin.
Earlier this month, our President & CEO, Josipa Petrunic (she/elle) joined a discussion on TVO's The Agenda about the difficulties of traveling around Ontario. Joined by Wendy Landry, Éric Boutilier, Eric Miller and host, Steve Paikin, Josipa discussed the challenges Ontarians face with public transit and why only 20% of Ontarians use public transit as their primary source of transportation. Accomplished Accessibility Consultant | Diversity & Inclusion | Inspirational Speaker | Fearless Advocate
As we travel through the ebb and flow of daily life, accessible public transport stands as a beacon of independence. It's more than just getting from point A to B; it's about the freedom to move, to connect, and to engage with our community without barriers. Today, I'm taking a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the strides we've made in North American public transit. But as we applaud our progress, we must also look to the skies. Air travel still presents a myriad of challenges for those of us in wheelchairs. While we can board buses and trains with increasing ease, airplanes remain a frontier where accessibility is often an afterthought. This needs to change. Everyone deserves to soar. What has been your experience with accessibility in public transit and air travel? Let's continue the conversation and advocate for a world where every journey is possible for everyone. #InclusiveTravel #AccessibilityMatters #WheelchairTravel #AdvocateForChange #AccessibleTransit #AllWheelsUp

In a statement from WhiteHouse.gov on April 10 regarding Japan's visit to the USA, Japan and the USA have reaffirmed their joint commitment to decarbonizing the aviation industry, targeting net-zero emissions by 2050. Key initiatives include the U.S. Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) Grand Challenge aiming to produce three billion gallons of SAF by 2030 to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Japan has a similar goal to replace 10% of its airline fuels with SAF by 2030. Both countries are working on measures to increase the global supply of SAFs and improve the carbon efficiency of SAF feedstocks and products. The U.S. will contribute through international cooperation and technological support, while Japan focuses on advancing R&D and commercializing SAF technologies like Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ), supported by its Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. #grandchallenge https://lnkd.in/e4SEv2_z

I wanted to share with you my family experiences of the race riots. My children were watching the Olympics, they are mixed heritage and were being inspired by the wonderful athletes when the news came on and they watched a little bit. They took time to process, they are all under 10. Today they asked questions as we drove in our car. They asked me if anyone was going to stop us and pull them out of the car because they are brown and beat them up. They were worried. I explained it to them in an age-appropriate way, not shying away from the complexity, not shying away from a discussion on racism. I also asked them to do what they can control and made them feel in control of the situation. Coaching them with things to say if someone is unkind. Letting them know that I would protect them and stand up for them and that I would keep them safe. If you work in education, please plan for the beginning of term for supportive pastoral care, ask experts to support your children in school - experts who have lived experience, who have a deep experience of racism and how to feel empowered. Because children are scared, plan your pastoral sessions for age-appropriate discussions which explicitly support belonging and safety. There are charities who have prepared resources, use them. If you are in a school that isn't multi-cultural and you think it doesn't apply to your setting. It does. Address the reality of racism in society. Please don't shy away from difficult conversations, because they are needed. Please help children understand what is happening in a child-friendly way and support them to move forward to move towards a better society, because it is needed now more than ever. #Education
Some thoughts on the race riots in Britain. Stay grounded, stay in your power. We come from a powerful lineage of survivors. They are NOT more powerful than you.

Yesterday was a significant moment. Senior decision makers from across the Aviation industry in one room being educated on the real-world challenges faced by those travelling by air with mobility/accessibility requirements, but more important than that, actively engaging with the issue and working towards collective solutions. Onwards! A brief excerpt from the article: Ireland is a leader in so many areas of global aviation that it should take the lead, too, on making planes more accessible to everybody. “We have the real capacity to change things just with people in the room today. We can significantly move the needle,”. “The essence of what business is, is about innovating and problem solving to meet the needs of customers. Awareness always precedes change. When people are not aware of the real impact a problem has on people, they can’t provide a solution. Today was about explaining the problem, the next step is about solving it.” Thank you to Irelandia Aviation dec ryan for hosting and Tom Lyons at The Currency for profiling the discussion. #aviation #accessibility #universaldesign #innovation
Making airplanes more accessible: “We can significantly move the needle” I was at a great talk yesterday by Jack Kavanagh in the offices of Irelandia Aviation about making airplanes more accessible to people with mobility difficulties. The below is from our interview afterwards in The Currency where he makes some very important points and explains why this needs to happen. dec ryan, Paul Hayes, John S. Slattery, Jean Botti, Marina Evans, Eamonn Brennan, Michael Lynch, Aoife Gallen.
