Live from Stripe Tour London: Stripe Capital is now available to businesses in the UK. Later this year, UK platforms can use Capital to offer financing to their own users. Platforms are an important part of the UK’s small business economy and we’re at a tipping point—more than half of small businesses use platforms like Shopify or Treatwell to accept payments. We see it in our own data too. There are 54 platforms in the EU and UK that are each processing over a billion pounds each year. So many great conversations at Stripe Tour London. I hope all who attended found value in hearing directly from businesses on how they’re using Stripe tools to get ahead of the embedded finance evolution. I particularly loved Adam Boushie’s conversation with Oliver Mahoney insights - CTO of Lopay - on how they are embracing and accelerating with embedded finance. The embedded finance industry in Europe is predicted to account for 15% of all banking revenue by 2030, we’re proud to be able to give our users a leg up. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗲‘𝘀 𝗨𝗞 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 Sat on basically the front row of the audience of Stripe’s UK tour this morning, I heard a few of the interesting products just announced for the UK market and a sneak peak at some others. A couple of the big ones are: 👉🏽 Stripe Capital: Unlocking access to funding for the UK’s small businesses and creates new revenue streams for platforms. AKA Get Financed 👉🏽 Available in the UK first, Stripe’s Open Banking-powered payment method and faster manual payouts provide businesses with quicker, cheaper ways to access their earnings. AKA Get Paid Faster and Understand Cashflow As someone who has worked in SME lending and called out Getting Finance and Getting Paid Faster as part of my product strategy work, these new products to serve business needs are welcome, will positively impact businesses but shouldn’t be a huge surprise given the challenges businesses face. It’s the scale of coverage of these solutions and Stripe’s product evolution that is super inpressive. From 2010: “Startup to help US businesses take credit card payments” To today: “Everything payments, for all businesses…Everywhere”. This warrants a deep dive on their evolution, product stack, the Jobs they are solving for businesses, product metrics they drive for customers, and more, right? 👀

💳 14 years since starting, Stripe now processes $1T+ in payments annually. We partnered with Sacra to get you the juicy numbers behind this growth: Full dashboard here → https://lnkd.in/eyJWa8iu The most interesting takeaway for me was that Stripe's main competitor Adyen, is actually kind of a beast: 🌐 Stripe and Adyen have roughly the same global market share in payments services (35% each) and roughly the same TPV (total payments volume) of $1T/year 🧑💻 But Adyen has half as many employees as Stripe (~4,000 vs ~8,000) 💰 And Adyen makes > 3x more profit than Stripe ($800m vs $250m) Both companies are obviously incredible, but here's my luke-warm take: Stripe has crafted an incredible mythology around itself, turning it into Silicon Valley's darling company. This mythology is great when you're a startup. But as Stripe comes up to its 15th year and gears up for IPO it will need a new narrative, and the numbers to back it up. Stripe to Let Employees Cash Out Shares for Third Time Stripe expects to let employees cash out some of their shares, as it has done twice before. John Collison, a co-founder of Stripe, said the company did that last year, did it again this year and will probably do it again “in the future,” Bloomberg reported Monday (June 17). Speaking with David Rubenstein for an upcoming episode of Bloomberg Television’s “The David Rubenstein Show: Peer to Peer Conversations,” Collison also said that Stripe is in no hurry to launch an initial public offering (IPO), according to the report. While analysts have closely watched Stripe and other FinTech veterans, waiting to see when and how they may go public, Collison said many companies go public too early and that Stripe remains focused on products and opportunities to grow the business, per the report. Stripe was valued at $65 billion in February after a share sale deal with employees. That deal saw the company and some of its investors purchase more than $1 billion in stock from current and former employees, When announcing the deal, Stripe said that using its capital to purchase the shares would offset dilution from the company’s employee equity compensation programs. “We’re pleased to once again offer employees an opportunity for liquidity,” Stripe Chief Financial Officer Steffan Tomlinson said at the time. “Our business continues to see strong momentum with the most advanced companies in the world.” In March, Stripe reported that it surpassed $1 trillion in total payment volume in 2023, a figure that was up 25% from the previous year and meant that businesses running on Stripe accounted for about 1% of global gross domestic product (GDP). “Stripe was robustly cash flow positive in 2023 and expects to be again in 2024,” Collison and Co-founder Patrick Collison wrote in the company’s 2023 annual letter released March 13. “This threshold is important because it allows us to invest for the long term, building what we believe our users need 10 years from now, without regard for the natural volatility of capital markets.” During the company’s annual user conference held in April, John Collison said that Stripe was founded in 2009 to enable the acceptance of online payments but soon got requests for additional features, which he dubbed “software-defined financial services.” #news #finance #financenews #fintech #fintechnews #trendingnews #dailynews #dailynewsupdates

🚨 𝙅𝙐𝙎𝙏 𝙄𝙉: Payments giant Stripe has acquired a four-year-old competitor, Lemon Squeezy to help build a global merchant of record solution. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. As a self-proclaimed “merchant of record,” Lemon Squeezy calculates and pays global sales tax for digital products, handling legal processing and fees in every country. It primarily serves SaaS and software businesses. This isn’t Stripe’s first acquisition this year.
