For the past 6 years of my life, I’ve been an Amazonian. I love being an Amazonian. We are data-driven, innovative, we care for our people, we understand that success and scale bring great responsibility.
I am an Amazonian.
You know what else I am? A Venezuelan. We are data-driven, innovative, kind, fun, hard-working people. We care for our people, and that includes pretty much everyone we encounter. And we have been fighting for our freedom for the last 25 years.
Our country is being stolen from us. Our freedom is being stolen from us. On July 28th, Edmundo Gonzalez won the presidential election against Nicolas Maduro, the dictator. We won with 67% of the votes, 7.17M people (I did say we were data driven, we collected every receipt from 81.85% of the polling stations to validate this result, and made it available online). Maria Corina Machado has been the brave Oposition Leader coordinating and leading us through this process, the winner of our Primary elections, but banned from running for Presidency herself by the autocratic government.
Maduro’s government has failed to recognize these results, has proclaimed himself as the winner and has launched a brutal crackdown on Venezuelans who have peacefully taken to the streets.
The US, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Uruguay, and others, have recognized Edmundo as President elect. The EU, UN, and OAS have called for transparency, so did the Carter Center, denouncing these elections as undemocratic, stating that it did not meet international standards of electoral integrity. Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and other leaders have called for freedom for Venezuelans.
I am calling on you to support our battle for freedom. There are over 1,200 political prisoners since the elections, 70 of them are underage. 16 people are dead, including a 15-year-old boy. There is no free press, and people are being kidnapped, taken from their homes by the regime. Maduro has declared that the current, and future prisoners will be taken to two maximum security prisons where they will “produce”: they will work, build roads, and be “reformed”. Essentially, he is building concentration camps.
There are over 8 million Venezuelans around the world. You know them, you work with them, you laugh with them. With us. Please, help us.
I ask you to stay informed, to support these colleagues in these days, to share the news, to rally additional support, to ask your local congress and government representatives what they are doing about the communist threat, that terrorizes and kills its citizens 1,200 miles South of the US. What they are doing about a Russian-backed, narco-government, whose leader is wanted by the DEA for a $15M reward.
