People expect non-technical founders, but in reality, they also have their shortcomings. One of these shortcomings is the lack of technical power, but this is where the necessity of division of labor comes into play. In the market, there's an expectation for these founders to focus on innovation, business, design, fun, and even finance. However, the foundation of any project is 'technology.' Especially during bear markets, founders often find themselves needing to learn more. Let's not forget two essential aspects: corporate governance and foundational knowledge of crypto law. Non-technical founders are acutely aware of the legal risks associated with technology, but the technical execution can be more challenging to grasp. Nevertheless, due to the need to learn and understand various critical aspects, the technical execution often gets overlooked. In these non-traditional companies with 1-10 people and the possibility of not scaling up, wearing multiple hats is quite common. Founders today are more specialized and committed compared to those in 2021-2022. Division of labor is inevitable because it's no longer as easy as it was in 2021-2022 for any Web3 project to secure millions or even tens of millions of dollars in funding. With the rising costs due to regulation, investors' demands have also increased. Everyone knows that VCs are not focusing on new technology is the business or brand that will bring them future returns. Current NFT projects are classified as 'personal token businesses' and are treated on par with corporations. So, non-technical founders may be based on a 'unique concept,' but the preparation required to bring that concept to life is much more extensive than in past projects. Founders cannot understand and handle everything, which is why it eventually comes down to the 'execution speed' and 'learning speed.' However, collaboration is a two-way street, and just because someone thinks it's 1 now doesn't mean it will automatically become 2 in everyone's expectations the next day. It might be a decision made by the person responsible for execution or review. I've been reflecting on Folks' growth and the scaling phase we are facing right now. Our journey in Folks Finance started three years ago. I still remember preparing the slides for the Algorand Accelerate. At that time, Algorand Technologies did not have a Virtual Machine, and it was extremely difficult to build a lending protocol. The seed round fundraise was very ambitious and succeeded with Borderless Capital, bringing in names like Coinbase Ventures, ParaFi Capital, OKX Ventures, and Jump Crypto to invest in an Algorand project for the first time. Launching on Mainnet right before the Terra Luna crash in April '22 and foreseeing the incredibly difficult times ahead, we decided to use the funds to do what we know best: #BUILD. Here we are now; Folks Finance is no longer a lending protocol but one of the most advanced DeFi Hubs in the entire industry, with more than $85M TVL, more than 7,000 active users every month, and our metrics keep growing. Now that we're fundraising again, it's extremely humbling to receive compliments from VCs for what we achieved during this market and to hear how many wish to support our journey, believing that we'll sit at the top of DeFi. The upcoming xLending protocol will set a new standard for DeFi, where the different chains will be abstracted from the user, and the user experience will be brought to the next level thanks to the messaging technology of Chainlink Labs CCIP and Wormhole. I am very excited for the beginning of the new year to launch our new product and the governance token #FOLKS. We will always strive to bring innovation to this industry together with our community! Caldera, a "rollup-as-a-service" platform that enables #developers to easily set up layer-2 #blockchains, has secured a $15 million Series A fundraising round lead by Peter Thiel's Founders Fund. In an interview with CoinDesk, CEO Matt Katz stated that the fresh #financing will allow him to expand Caldera's 15-person staff and develop up the Metalayer, an interoperability ecosystem designed to simplify the process of launching applications across various blockchains. Caldera now offers a simple interface for building layer-2 "rollup" chains, which record data to #Ethereum but deliver faster and cheaper transactions. The Caldera product suite integrates with popular rollup-building frameworks such as Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon; developers can choose a rollup #ecosystem and then switch out components to fit the specific use case they're creating for. "Many blockchain projects face growing challenges in deploying and maintaining rollups due to the high costs, slow processes and risks associated with hiring protocol and site reliability engineers," said Caldera in a statement. "Caldera solves this by enabling projects to deploy a rollup with a single click, eliminating the need for an in-house #engineeringteam." Dragonfly, Sequoia Capital, Arkstream Capital, and Lattice all invested in Caldera's Series A #investment. The firm, which was created in 2022, now has a total financing of $25 million. Ethereum's layer-2 ecosystem is expanding quickly, as evidenced by the recent financing, with rollup chains surpassing the layer-1 Ethereum chain in terms of overall #networkactivity very quickly. "Everybody's launching a chain right now," said Katz. In response to the demand created by Ethereum's layer-2 explosion, builders have scrambled: Developers can now create their own interoperable blockchains by using ready-made templates provided by early rollup teams, such as the ones behind the well-known chains Optimism and Arbitrum. To store the enormous amounts of transaction data produced by all the different blockchains, new "data availability" layers such as EigenDA and Celestia have arisen. More recently, as liquidity has become scattered across various diverse layer-2 ecosystems, Polygon's AggLayer and zkSync's Elastic Chain have emerged to assist capital flow more effectively between networks.
