Delighted to be in Anaheim, Orange County, California for the 60th IEEE Power & Energy Society Transmission and Distribution conference. 🔋🚀 Big Trends: Recent US Regulatory and Governmental policy shifts such as GRIP now making impacts with major digitalisation and innovation projects underway. 💫 Unlocking capacity and improving asset utiliisation through sensing and modelling now a regulatory must in the US. 💻 The NAM Grids are ageing with over 50% of assets at least 25 years old. A major once-in-a-generation overhaul of the asset base is required to support the Energy transition. ⏱️ This will be achieved through a combination of asset reinforcement and widespread adoption of various digitalisation and monitoring solutions on both existing and new assets. 🌎

Most of the power system engineers, and managers, even have no idea of how the active power and reactive power are balanced in a power grid. What's the difference between frequency stability and angular stability? The basic principle and algorithm of a distance relay. They even have no idea of what is a grid-forming controller although developing a so-called grid-forming inverter controller. That's my impression of working 12 years at GE grid solutions.

Today we celebrate completing one month of the fascinating first official CA-TZ conference at Slovenia! Within this short period, the CA-TZ network of the compressed air wizards has already started engaging to exchange! The independent members who have joined this forum are from various geographical continents but speak a common language – compressed air energy efficiency! The members as individuals are brand agnostic and devoid of any specific compressed air equipment manufacturer. They bring to the table their expertise in supply side, distribution side, and demand side applications of industrial pneumatics. The technocrats share their knowledge in technology, business, finance, management, and anything that helps in achieving the larger goal of reducing carbon emissions caused by the inefficient source of energy, that is compressed air. While the seeds were sowed a few years ago, the preliminary meeting at Hannover, Germany in the last April gave an impetus to formalize the CA-TZ organization. Over the last one-month period, the members have started actively reaching out the forum for resources, references, and help, to learn from the ideas implemented in another region or country that suite their requirements in providing solutions to their customers. If you have expertise in the field of compressed air energy efficiency and are enthusiastic to share / exchange your ideas as an individual, then you are welcome to explore CA-TZ!

Basis risk, congestion, and interconnections costs are among the biggest challenges I see investors and developers grappling with. This great case study by The AES Corporation and LineVision illustrates the tangible benefits dynamic line rating can bring quickly to get more out of our existing transmission system while we go through the multi year process it will take to add new transmission lines. Kudos to AES for showing other transmission owners the path forward and kudos to LineVision for how far their technology has evolved and its ability to provide well documented benefits besides just increasing line capacity.
