Lidl's"Feed It Back initiative;sustainability at the Heart of Lidl." It's not just about providing quality products at affordable prices; it's about fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility. What an incredible impact we can make through Lidl's "Feed It Back initiative", a cause that embodies the spirit of community service and compassion! As shift manager in 729, it fills me with immense pride to lead a team dedicated to such a noble and meaningful cause. At the end of each day, instead of seeing perfectly good bakery items go to waste, we are redirecting them to local charities and food banks through Neighbourly. This not only minimizes our environmental footprint but also addresses the pressing issue of food insecurity in our community. This initiative not only aligns with our core values but also demonstrates our responsibility towards reducing food waste and addressing the pressing issue of the cost of living crisis. As we embark on this journey, aiming to allocate 10% of our surplus towards charity, we are not just meeting a target but becoming a driving force for positive change.With Christmas approaching, our efforts take on an even greater significance. How would you tackle a to-do list that includes making nine litres of soup, 70 portions of chicken rogan josh and rice, 90 side dishes and around 50 berry muffins? The answer, as this joint team from Powerday and Ardmore Group found, is to divide and conquer. We split our teams into subgroups and set them to work on specific parts of the menu, so they can stay focused on what they're producing. The deadlines are tight, there's a healthy bit of pressure; but there's always time for some laughs along the way. And the impact of their day is split several ways too. The food goes to local outreach organisations and our own Pantry members; the profits get invested back into our community programme; and our teams get to take an enhanced sense of purpose and connection home with them at the end of the day. My goal this season is to make a meaningful impact on food insecurity. Will you join me? And only 1 in 4 of our food insecure neighbors can access the help available. 💔 That is unacceptable. Period. Daniel Zauderer and his team at Grassroots Grocery shows us an innovative way to actually change these disturbing stats. As a community, WE can extend the food supply chain the last mile to reach 2500+ households each week!! 🤝🥒🥦🍎🤝 Grassroots Grocery’s network of neighbors helping neighbors takes excess, wholesale bulk produce from Hunts Point Produce Market directly into the heart of the surrounding communities to those who need it most. Thats what I call farm to table for all!! ❤️ How? 5 days a week, Team GrG & volunteers like me pack and deliver beautiful fresh produce (which might otherwise go to waste) to courageous community leaders who host neighborhood produce giveaways = dignified, hyper-local access to healthy food. Today is World Environment Day, a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve our planet. Here at Containers for Change, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment every day. Our research consistently identifies the biggest barriers to returning containers are access and convenience, with 31% of those surveyed stating this as a reason. Since the scheme launched in October 2020, we have continued to bring the community new ways to return their 10¢ containers by creating opportunities that align with the local communities' every day and weekly routines. Some of these new ways to return include the introduction of our collection service and the establishment of our Self-serve Kiosks. Have you tried either of these services? Our report, released yesterday, exposes a trend amongst Generations Z and Alpha that demonstrates a stark contradiction between their attitude and behaviour towards protecting the planet and their unfettered shopping habits - which Charity Retail is best-placed to correct. Not only are charity shops critical to reducing items sent to landfill and tempting shoppers away from fast fashion, but they are also critical in providing relatively low-cost goods, acting as community hubs that can empower marginalised groups, encourage skills development and bring social cohesion. They can also provide a much deeper and more satisfying shopping experience when compared to the short-lived high of buying new goods online.
