These wounds can manifest as fears of judgment, rejection, and abandonment, keeping us stuck in people-pleasing patterns and preventing us from embracing our true selves. However, through embodiment practices such as somatic healing, we can begin to unlock these fears and step into our authentic power. Somatic techniques help us connect with our bodies and the present moment, moving through places of stuckness and limiting beliefs. By acknowledging and processing our emotions without judgment, we can make space for spontaneity, creativity, and change. When we embrace embodiment, we recognize that our cognition and understanding of the world around us are deeply rooted in our bodily experiences. This allows us to tap into our unique gifts and co-create a life of oneness, compassion, and goodness. Healing emotional wounds is a crucial aspect of this journey. Emotional trauma can leave us feeling isolated and craving external validation. By practicing self-compassion and kindness, we can begin to process and release these wounds, reducing feelings of loneliness and promoting emotional healing. Together, embodiment and authenticity create a powerful pathway to a life filled with purpose and true expression. I want to share this podcast I discovered today as I was googling "I F**** up my life" during lunch (yea, I sure know how to have fun, don't I 😂🤣) ... well, but ... I'm thinking how many of us experts also have days when we feel like S**t? We just don't talk about this much. Why? Well, the best reason would be because you don't want to give these thoughts any more breathing space. They need to be stopped before they invade your whole day, week, month, life... The second reason is, that we don't need to infect others with our negativity (yes, this is a viral disease... sad to say, this is true). BUT - we still need to talk about this as it is IMPORTANT! These thoughts are blatant lies messing up many a person's Monday, not just my own. Whatever you do DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD OF IT! I believe we don't share enough "behind the scenes" reality on social media. We only share the good stuff, the accolades, the success stories, the happy moments, the cookies and cream of life. When in fact...my inner voice is on a rampage today, I'm finding it hard to like myself right now, and it took me over 40 years to discover this is a setting I could tinker with if I want to live a better life. I choose to talk about this as Inner Dialogue Invasions are not just happening to me. They are omnipresent. The more successful you are the more likely you're at war with yourself daily! It took me a while to admit it, my default emotional setting is somewhat on the sad side of life. My amygdala is reacting fearfully when in reality there is no real danger. I need to own this setting. I need to know it's skewed and I need to work on resetting it every day ... in the last five years, my overall happiness coefficient (HQ) went up remarkably due to my private work. One of my self-coaching techniques is to start a "Bank of Affirmative Stories" where I have recently deposited a lovely "love my life" Story when I had one of the most incredible days (mind you it was just a normal Tuesday, but I felt like I owned the world). I pulled that story out and confronted my inner dialogue with it. As a result, we're agreeing to disagree at the moment lol 🤣😎 but I'm pretty sure that in an hour or so I'll bounce back to my "learned optimism" state of well-being. If you are going through your private little inner war - know you are not alone, this is a normal occurrence! I've coached many leaders and experts on getting out of this spin! Let’s Talk About Our Precious Heart! As we wrap up Stress Awareness Month (April 30th), our journey from brain science takes us to another extraordinary organ—our hearts. Earlier this month, we explored how the brain processes trauma, stress, and regulation. Now, I'm thrilled to share fascinating insights about the heart. Did you know that our heart is not merely a pump? It contains around 40,000 neurons, enabling it to sense, feel, think, and even remember, essentially hosting its own internal 'brain.' Through the vagus nerve, the heart communicates with our brain, sending significantly more signals to it than it receives. This astounding fact reshapes our understanding of emotional and physiological responses (or feelings and emotions do matter!!). Sharing an enlightening episode from one of my favorite podcasts - Everyday Better by Leah Smart, featuring Deborah Rozman, Founding Executive Director of the HeartMath Institute. The discussion illuminated how heart-brain interactions can profoundly influence our ability to self-regulate (establish coherence) and much more. As a yogi, I’ve felt this intuitively, but understanding the science that validates practices like the asanas, breathing exercises and meditation can bring about a state of coherence that calms our mind, body, and spirit is truly enlightening. As we transition into May, celebrating both Mental Health Awareness and Meditation Awareness Month, I will continue to share these vital themes. Many people live disconnected from their bodies, drifting through life like floating heads, cut off from the wisdom that lies below the neck. When we ignore our bodies, we often feel blockages in our throats, a tangible sign of stifled expression. This disconnection is so common, yet so few of us truly recognize it. We spend so much time lost in our thoughts, overthinking, and obsessing, that we often forget to tune into the very vessel that carries us through this life. In doing so, we abandon our bodies and ignore the vital messages they send us every day. To truly cultivate compassion, we must be present with ourselves. This means inhabiting our bodies, feeling our emotions, and tuning into the sensations that arise within us. Pain, discomfort, and tension are not just nuisances to be silenced; they are your body's way of communicating with you, urging you to listen and respond. Instead of getting angry or frustrated with your body, pause and ask yourself, “What is my body trying to tell me?” Are you listening? And more importantly, are you following through with what your body is asking of you? Are you honoring the needs it expresses? This is the only body we have in this lifetime.  Stop abandoning it. Choose to love it, honor it, and build a relationship of trust and respect. There is a desperate need for self-compassion and a need to reconnect with our bodies. Healing begins with self-awareness and a deep understanding of the mind-body connection. It's time to celebrate the power and wisdom that reside within you. This past year has been one of the most difficult years of my entire life. At the same time, it was a year of multiple dreams coming true all at once. Along with the fulfillment of those dreams came a new lesson that I wasn’t prepared for. The lesson…you can only grow at the pace of your body's ability to contain it. When you push yourself too hard your body will respond and make you slow down. In December I had a nervous breakdown. It was horrifying. I’d noticed the build-up of it for months. I couldn’t self-regulate anymore. I didn’t feel myself. Thoughts of fear became intense and intrusive, I couldn’t control them. I was losing myself and I couldn’t stop the avalanche. All the old tools that I’d learned over the years, the tools that brought me balance, clarity, peace, and focus were no longer working. I had to start over. The nervous breakdown was like a system reboot, and as my hard drive comes back online the tools are still there but the energy behind them has something new powering them. A deep, intimate, romantic, and caring love for myself that wasn’t there before. - - - A mental or nervous breakdown is an intense period of overwhelming psychological distress that significantly impacts your ability to function in daily life. You might experience extreme feelings that make it difficult to cope with your responsibilities. It’s not a clinical term or a mental illness in itself, but a sign that you need to pause and seek help. Mental breakdowns are more common than you might think, and recognizing when it happens is crucial for getting the right support. Early intervention can lead to a better recovery and help prevent future breakdowns.
