When we acquired Gunner last year, nick forshee and Ian Sigmon were both a little nervous about how their day-to-day would change. They went from being agency leaders, with a range of clients, to working in-house with one client—and I remember talking to them about the fear that the job would get repetitive or less exciting. Here’s a list of projects they’ve gotten to oversee/direct/consult on over the last year: • Our first-ever Super Bowl ad featuring Duo’s butt • A sizzle reel promoting our annual learning conference, Duocon • A bunch of new features, like DuoRadio and Avatars • Our viral app icon change • A library of hilarious widget illustrations At Duolingo, you truly never know what your next project will be. And that’s the fun of it. When I asked Nick how he was feeling a year later, he said: “The variety of projects surrounding that little green owl is quite astonishing. Seeing the social reaction to our work has also sent our dopamine levels into a new career high.” Get in on the fun—we’re hiring for a Creative Director. Why not making a tv series? ( either YouTube Shorts to start building or 3-5 minutes episodes ) Duolingo going on a journey around the world, learning new cultures, while having fun, and facing some challenges too? Perhaps with some unheard languages? You can literally cover various ages and get them to love Duolingo more, ensuring you have always an audience and future Duolingo stars ( users ) to use your app to learn they favorite language with their favorite character. 😉
Really excellent example of how to integrate entrepreneurs and put them in positions to accelerate the brand AND their scope (re limiting their boredom). Entrepreneurs for the most part desire constant motion and it sounds like your org structure is enabling this well. 🎯🎯🎯
Ryan Sims , here’s your gal Kristin Hough (Huff) . I’ve worked with creative directors and designers by the dozens at major brands and agencies. Kristin. Is. It.
Seeing fun, human-made design work within a company never fails to brighten my day as well as my perception of the company itself! I love to see it!
I’ve been maintaining my streak in Duolingo for a while now, to the point where the characters feel like old friends. 😂😌🦉 I’m even contemplating ordering the Duo plushie (but then he’ll find out where I live.) 😰😂 A great example of creative marketing, really.
It's funny you posted this right as I was recommending Duolingo as an example of great app development for gamification! :)
The app icon changing is the reason why I deleted the app. Make it an option.
The Gunner folks were some of the most talented I’ve gotten to work with. So glad they’ve been able to find an awesome new chapter
Still waiting for my latest degree to be complete so DuoLingo can hire me somehow in UK - love the culture! Came for the languages, stayed for owl booty
