Today, we announced Duolingo’s second acquisition as a public company: Hobbes, a motion design studio. Motion design—an animation discipline that uses movement to add visual interest to user experiences — is a gap in our current animation pipeline. To date, we have invested most of our energy and focus into character and technical animation. The creatives at Hobbes will bolster our existing animation pipeline, improve our UX, deepen the ways in which users interact with our product, and help further our mission of developing the best education in the world. We are so excited to welcome the Hobbes team to Duolingo—let’s do this! Read more about the acquisition here: https://lnkd.in/dJjpZ2Kz
It's incredibly inspiring to see companies investing in design. This is fantastic news for the design community, as it highlights the importance of motion design in enhancing user experiences. Duolingo is already a powerhouse in animation and design, can’t wait to see what this collaboration will bring to the table.
It’s huge to see companies investing in motion design. The vast majority ignore it as “gold plating” and fail to recognize its potential to strengthen usability and brand equity.
Soooooooo important for delight
Super refreshing to see an acquisition made for the customer experience versus more data, more revenue, more scale... Bravo.
Love seeing an investment in design. Learning is easier when the experience is engaging. I’m excited to see the impact this acquisition makes.
Wow. We had some amazing animators and illustrators at Headspace but bringing in a full motion design studio will be such a boost to how the brand shows up across all surfaces.
so excited for this, welcome to Duolingo to the Hobbes team!
Improving UX through interaction and motions is a refreshing perspective
I appreciate when a company invests in artist who have honed their craft, rather thank some flashy AI tool.

1moUh oh, now they'll have even more ways for me to be distracted by animations and tell myself I'm "learning" :) I've been "learning" Portuguese for three years, with daily usage of this app and still can't confidently hold a conversation with a native Brazilian. But at least I have a lot of XP and am a proud member of the diamond league...
