Toxicity at workplace is a very real phenomenon in Pakistan yet very few people talk about it. It is one elephant in the room nobody talks about. Two major reasons I repeatedly hear from my clients about toxicity at workplaces are 1) unskilled Managers and bosses and 2)fear of failure or competition of bosses with their direct reportees or team members especially in highly technical roles. In many of my coaching sessions I have come across leaders who have shared their stories of having tolerated toxic leaders, toxic work cultures and toxic peers which is causing them either psychological safety issues or worse physical signs of distress. What are your thoughts? Have you faced such issues? Did you come across such place? Did anyone near you experienced toxic workplace? How did you respond? Want to know tips and tricks! #leadership #culture #mentalwellbeing

When an organization’s culture is toxic, trust, a sense of psychological safety, and employee morale are degraded to unhealthy levels and employees suffer from emotional and physical exhaustion, conflict between work and family, high levels of anxiety and stress, lack of sleep, and even psychological distress. In a nutshell, everyone loses. We can--and must--do better.   #toxic workplace #workplace culture #bad managers #toxic leaders

In ill-managed work cultures, employees are often advised and suggested to 'cope up' or 'adjust' as a way to make their way through the professional world. However, in most instances their distress is also brushed aside simply by saying "It happens all around the world" "Focus on what you can control", "If you feed into such minor disturbances, you won't be able to make it big" Often times the affected party falls into a self doubt vacuum thinking they are demanding too much and accepting it is how it is.

Employers aren’t willing to invest in their resources when they need relevant training to evolve as leaders from technical experts. Of course there are many other factors that contribute to toxic cultures but this one stands out.

Not just Pakistan, it is everywhere. I think it depends largely on the mindset of people who call the shots - particularly generation gap and egotistic personalities.

Indeed , it is there. We as leaders need to talk about it and get our workplaces detoxed...safe for everyone....the toxicity directly relates to and impacts mental well being, psychological safety and engagement...

To be honest it is very much prevalent even in organizations who are flag bearers of positive environments. All it depends on what kind of manager you have and if that manager is aligned with the organizational strategy of positivity and flexibility or not. Also when you are being victimized by organizational or managerial toxicity, almost always you are in it alone and you hardly find anyone to advice or guide you. In a way its okay because then you learn by hit and trial and understand what works best for you to come out of the toxic pressurization.

Toxicity begins when an "idiot" is elevated to the leadership position unchecked. He thinks that raising his voice is the best way of being heard/followed. He has no concept of motivation, morale, management but thinks he is doing v well. In actual no one respects him and such people have no legacy.
