I would prefer to prioritize choosing a boss and the work/study environment over the attractive #salary!! I did it before, and still follow the same approach! The following story was a secret and I would like to reveal it to share my experience and the lessons I learned! When I was working as a #salesengineer, I sun shone in less than one year when I remarkably expanded the company's market share in the Eastern Province in #Saudiarabia. As a result, I received a call from a competitor and he invited me to lunch at one of the well-known restaurant. I thought he would like to discuss a possible collaboration with our company, as it was a common practice in the market. I was surprised when he offered me a position in his company with an attractive salary! However, I never thought twice and politely turned down his offer immediately! The reason was my BOSS, Kan Weng Tat! I had a great boss who had been teaching me a lot! He cared not only about me, but my work-life balance and my family! He typically took my skills to the next level, both in my career and personal life. When he left the company I was down for a whole week because I lost a true mentor! Besides, the workplace environment was great and we used to work as a real team! I still have a good relationship and communicate from time to time with my colleagues there, as well as with my boss, Kan Weng Tat ! I never regret passing up the offer proposed by the competitor. Three common misconceptions of Ramadan 1. ‘No one does any work’ - We’ve heard this a few times last week and we have to disagree, in what we do - We feel hiring managers are still active and recruitment is still going on. If anything a lot of managers are building in the ‘quieter’ period to come out and into spring in a stronger position than how they went into it. 2. ‘We can’t do anything during Ramandan’ Again, this is quite a fallacy. Almost all areas are open to the public, restaurants are serving food, there are no blinds / shutters - you’re able to play music in public - most amenities and attractions are open just double check the timings before you set off! 3. ‘We’re going to get arrested if we show a bit of ankle/wrist’ 🙄 You’re really not, the UAE and its rulers have relaxed Ramadan a lot since we moved here 8 years ago and it’s an incredibly tolerate place, just please be respectful/conservative on clothing/music/eating times/calling times and we would highly suggest being sensitive on booking meetings. Papua New Guineans!! - why do we always create jobs for foreigners, especially the executive roles? We start a bank, we look for foreigners to come and run it, we start a school, we get foreigners to come run it, we start a business, we get foreigners to come run it. We now have foreigners as waiters and waitresses, kaibar assistants, shop cashiers, and security guards......The only jobs reserved 100% for Papua New Guinean nationals are the "Fruit Picking" jobs in Australia and New Zealand. ...sad reality!

Language matters in your #companyculture. At Brasa Peruvian Kitchen, I just changed "job description" to "career description." A job, by definition, is a paid position for regular employment. Ugh. Awful. Regular employment? How are you going to create something great with regular or ordinary? A career has opportunities for growth. Consider changing the most standard processes in your business to reinforce what you're trying to build.

A matter of Urgent Attention!!! It has become awfully difficult to attract the right fit these days. with my over 5k connections on LinkedIn, I am not able to get qualified candidates. What could be the issue? I posted a spa manager job with a net salary of 800k-1m but only got applicants who has worked only as sales agents. sincerely speaking, it's baffling the Nigerian mentality of "make I just try my luck". How do one apply to a job that's not an entry level position with such mentality of trying luck.? few days back I also posted for business Manager Chinese Restaurant both on LinkedIn job posting and my page, but got no applicants. Now, I have posted the facilities manager. Are we then saying that, there are no longer job seekers in Nigeria? or there are platforms for posting these jobs that can get to these applicants easily. kindly assist me with information if you have any.
