I always endear the saying: “Every expert was once a beginner.” This philosophy sticks with me and that is the reason I love to teach and try to incorporate the aspect of teaching in everything I do. That is why I love to teach, to show new grad nurses, new hires. I used to volunteer to be a preceptor to orienting new nurses and students. I love the feeling that they are being valued, included and empowered. Because I see myself in them, every single time. The nerves, the overwhelming, the fear of doing things wrong. The fear of asking “silly” questions and being judged…all and all. The level of expertise comes with time, experiences, dedication and super hard-work ethics. But there is one more thing that I always believe in - “the humanity” with that comes with respect, understanding, humbleness. It is the thing prevents us (in the same business, industry, professions) from segregation & separation, from superiority and inferiority. Do NOT ever forget your FIRST day of being who you are TODAY. If it was what made or break you, it could be what made or break someone like you - and, NOT everyone can bounce back! :)

Finding purpose in your work is just as important as knowing your why 🙌🏻 I’ve had the privilege this year of continuing with the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) career mentoring program. As a volunteer mentor, I’ve learnt and grown so much, just like the mentees who choose this opportunity 🤲🏻 It was great to reflect with Aya yesterday on how much we have both achieved during this time and our goals for the future. I love seeing young nurses with the passion and commitment to their chosen field wanting to make a difference. As mentors for our emerging nurse leaders, it is important to remind them to have their why at the forefront of everything they do, because when this happens, their purpose is clear and they can be unstoppable in achieving anything they want. This inspires me to continually share my why in discussions I have with students and early career nurses, including the positive and challenging experiences I’ve had throughout my entire career that have shaped the nurse I am today. And when I do, my purpose is abundantly clear 💡 I know I’m headed in the right direction where I can add the most value and effect the biggest impact 👉🏻 If you’re unsure, perhaps you need to revisit your why and know your purpose in what you do 🙌🏻 #acn #mentor #nursing #nursesupport #nurseleaders #nurseleadership #leadership #earlycareer #careergoals #mywhy #mypurpose

Spotlight on Competency-Based Education at Lakeshore Technical College! As the adoption of competency-based education (CBE) continues to grow, Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) is becoming a beacon for other institutions looking to implement or expand this innovative education delivery model. Recently, C-BEN Member, LTC welcomed visitors from Umpqua Community College and Northeast Iowa Community College, eager to observe and learn from LTC’s successful practices. Dr. Meredith Sauer, Vice President of Instruction at LTC, highlighted the advantages of CBE: “We realized our traditional schedules were barriers to potential students with work and family commitments. Competency-based education provides the flexibility for college to fit around their lives.” Since adopting CBE, LTC has seen remarkable enrollment increases: Medical coder program: ⬆️ 100% Welding program: ⬆️ 60% Auto collision program: ⬆️ 77% CBE focuses on what students can do, allowing them to learn at their own pace with personalized coaching and support.
