Exciting news from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)! By September 2029, automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems, including those detecting pedestrians, will be standard in all passenger cars and light trucks. This move aims to significantly reduce rear-end and pedestrian crashes. This new regulation is expected to save at least 360 lives and prevent 24,000 injuries annually. AEB systems use sensors to detect imminent collisions with vehicles or pedestrians and apply brakes automatically if the driver doesn't react in time. This step forward highlights the life-saving potential of AEB technology and its maturity for widespread implementation.
