We are honored that our project has been selected for the finalist position in the Kurandza learning center competition by Archstorming. Designed by Dichotomy Design Studio Team members : Mohamed Alkherbawy Nadine Sameh Maha Sakhnini The main aim of this design proposal is to create a sustainable space to learn, to feel safe, to feel free, to be creative and to play and discover. Therefore, the design was based on four main pillars: 1. Safety. 2. Liberation: A barrier free space, providing a sense of freedom and a sense of independence. 3. Fun: Dynamic, providing a stimulating space that allows for exploration and play. 4. Interaction with nature: Embracing the surrounding nature making sure it is kept as it is and basing the design around it “The design and nature in-between”. #sustainablearchitecture #sustainability #ecofriendlydesign #sustainablebuilding #mozambique #learningcentre

How can architecture support the continuation of life in the aftermath of climate-related disasters such as floods, storms, heat waves and droughts, or the “endings” of human and/or non-human ecosystems? That was the question posed by the FuturArc Prize 2024, which recently announced its winners and merit recipients. The awarded entries are reminders of how endings can be beginnings and how through rebuilding and reusing, new realities can be realised. 1. First Place: Ouroboros rethinks how waste treatment facilities can improve citizens’ behaviour regarding trash at the site of Tangerang’s Rawa Kucing landfill, which was engulfed in fire due to the prolonged dry season. 2. Second Place: In the context of Jakarta’s rapidly sinking coastal area, Coastal Reform – Muara Angke 2100 provides a framework for people and nature to sustain themselves across macro and micro-level strategies. 3. Third Place: The architectural interventions proposed by the Spatialisation of Salt seek to provide freshwater in the Muaragembong estuary which has suffered from intensive salinisation due to nearly 50 years of anthropogenic landscape alterations. Read more about these winning proposals in the next issue of FuturArc. Diversity of thinking creates a richness and this is the juice of 𝑈𝑂𝑂𝑈 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. Along the lakeshore of Como, a young group of creatives merges their different backgrounds, cultures and languages into a constant exchange of ideas. Fueled by passion and innovation, 𝑈𝑂𝑂𝑈 𝑡𝑒𝑎𝑚 thrives in a dynamic environment, where Japanese candies are traded with wise Indian sayings, and Italian inventiveness is refined by the Lithuanian eye for details. This richness takes shape in each of our projects and, through an innovative design approach, we aim to celebrate the uniqueness of humankind, as part of an harmonious and wider ecosystem. Hamamatsu Kohoku Senior High School Multipurpose Gymnasium Design:Takeshita Architects and Associates Location:Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Pref. Shelter's involvement:Material supply See more photos from the link below. https://lnkd.in/dn4p2RkT #Shelter #design #architecture #wood #timber #structural #construction #shizuoka #school This is a plan for a multi-purpose gymnasium at a newly established high school formed from the merger of three prefectural schools. Rather than constructing the large space with traditional large cross-sections, the design features a light, arch-shaped structure that ensures the necessary height for sporting activities. The challenge was to use locally sourced cedar from the prefecture to manage the large span and thrust forces generated by the roof. The solution involved a wooden arch structure with a high rise to transmit axial forces vertically, combined with steel to bear horizontal forces. This hybrid structure of wood and steel allows for the arch beams to be half the size normally required. The detailed wooden construction creates an ideal environment for the new school's sports facilities.

Watch our episode about a new era for organic architecture by IBUKU Studio Link of full video interview in the post:
In this episode, we look at our architectural talk with Lucas Schlueter and Adriel Frederick of IBUKU, a team of young designers, architects and engineers exploring groundbreaking ways of using bamboo to create architecture in Bali, Indonesia. They also have projects in other parts of the world, and their works has been widely recognized and appeared in international publications like Architectural Digest, Vogue and the Huffington Post. IBUKU Studio We discuss about Bamboo architecture and a feature project - the Arc at Green School, the newest building on campus at the world-renowned Green School in Bali, Indonesia. This structure is considered as the first building of its kind and the newest benchmark in its history of breaking boundaries and exploring horizons, raising the bar for sustainable education around the world. Such a pleasure! It is always a great experience coming to Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave. This time I had the opportunity to give a #guestlecture about ' Assisted living conditions' being part of our project (in collaboration with UiS Byplanlegging / City and Regional Planning): 'Urban and community sustainability in planning and architecture'! #urbanplanning #universaldesign #UiS

#NewArticle Syntactic analysis of traditional houses in urban kampung Nova Asriana, Rendy Perdana Khidmat, Meldo Andi Jaya, Verarisa Anastasia Ujung, Widi Dwi Satria & Riza Andriani This research investigates a syntactical study and comparative analysis of the statistical and spatial characteristics of traditional houses in an urban kampung settlement, focusing on a selected case study built by a participatory Arabic community in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. This research aims to determine a formal rule basis for spatial configurations to reveal identical sociospatial structures based on syntactical analysis. This experiment measures spatial layout variation through space syntax analysis to provide a better understand of how the correlation between spatial configuration and sociospatial structures in traditional houses can be deconstructed. https://lnkd.in/epTp3Hdi

Best we hold off on this sort of stuff in Sydney Town until we get the waterproofing fundamentals right in our new builds ... balcony 1st principle waterproofing techniques (gravity is the king / queen - not sealants), flashings (both vertical and horizontal), facade material differentiation understanding etc.
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹: 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀... Imagine strolling down a bustling street and, glancing upwards, you're met with a mesmerizing sight—the Liebian Square in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China. This engineering wonder boasts a unique feature—an awe-inspiring urban waterfall. Activated for special occasions, this captivating spectacle operates at a cost of $118 per hour. To conserve resources, it gracefully runs for just 20 minutes each time. The water is propelled to the top of the skyscraper by four powerful 250 hp or 185 kilowatt pumps, cascading down from a height of 354 feet or 108 meters—the world's tallest man-made waterfall. Eco-consciousness prevails in this design, as tap water is ingeniously recycled through an underground storage system. However, this groundbreaking creation sparked mixed reactions. Some applaud its brilliance, while others criticize it for water and electricity consumption. What are your thoughts on this captivating urban marvel?
