In 19 years, I've facilitated 475 strategy workshops, give or take. They're always different, but one thing they have in common is the magic moment the client team uncovers a critical fork in the road for their organisation.
We're trying something new in 2024... Turning Leaf has started a new case study series to share stories from around the world that involve a "do-we-go-this-way-or-that-way" moment: the Strategy Standoff.
Let me know what you think and which way you voted. #strategyfacilitation
Can you guess which strategy Ample Hills chose and find out whether they succeeded or melted down in this month’s Strategy Standoff?
Turning Leaf tells the tale of an ice cream shop in Brooklyn that turned into a sensation and soon found itself at a precarious crossroads: should they ride the wave of popularity and grow fast, or tread a more cautious path and risk the opportunity to become the next Ben & Jerry's?
What an inspirational message. That was my first thought when I saw this ad.
What a great way to integrate your brand into a moment in time. That was my second thought.
Today, as storytellers and brand leaders, we so often just produce content and push it to consumers. Our brand message, our product proposition, or a promotion we are sure customers care about. We forget, as marketers, to first look around us and find collaboration. Collaboration that amplifies inspiration or promotes greatness. As brand leaders, how do we authentically capitalize on a moment in time, give greatness a stage, and organically share our brand story?
This is one of those campaigns that did all three in my opinion. Well done State Farm and agency partners. We are taking notes. #content#creative#brand

Somebody STOP This Man! Or... Sign Him!
Snoop Dogg, the one-man marketing powerhouse, is back at it again with a lineup of brand partnerships that has us all saying, 'What can't he do?'
From dropping his operator bundle into 🕹️ Call of Duty (ActivisionInfinity Ward), he's got the gaming world on lockdown. Then, he's kickin' it old school with 👟 Skechers, adding some serious style to our shoe game. But wait, there's more! He's making tails wag at 🦮 Petco and keeping things lit with 🔥 BIC Lighters.
What's the secret sauce, you ask? It's that unmistakable Snoop swagger and an uncanny ability to connect with audiences across the board. But here's the real magic: Snoop Dogg's quest for entrepreneurship isn't just about deals; it's about genuine involvement and ownership.
And to all the marketers out there, take a lesson from the Doggfather himself. When it comes to endorsements and marketing, it's not just about the deal; it's about creating a culture, and a connection.
What's your favorite Snoop Dogg brand partnership? 🤝

It is not too late to sign up for this incredible conversation, Indy. We're going to dive into an important topic - conscious marketing.
You don't need to be a marketer to get value out of this discussion.
I hope we'll see you tomorrow evening, May 16th, at COHatch in Carmel.

Had a great time at my first speaker workshop featuring Jarrett McGovern from RISE Brewing Co. hosted by Entrepreneurial Exchange Group today.
It was an incredible opportunity to gain insights into some of the strategic approaches adopted by the company, how they scaled their supply, and what metrics they focused on to determine success and how those shifted over time. I particularly enjoyed their incorporation of the Art of War into their journey which is something I can only appreciate thanks to Michael Serwetz's unique approach to teaching.
Made a few minor mistakes today that we will definitely be building on going forward: 1) Didn't put myself in a position to have my niggling question answered; 2) Didn't get a picture of the event. However other students had great questions that helped me glean the insights above so we got a positive outcome in the end!
And in case you happen to read this Mr. Jarrett McGovern, here was the question I should have made more of an effort to ask you: "Why did RISE Brewing Co. decide to adopt an athlete sponsorship marketing strategy and what qualities do you emphasize when deciding on someone to represent your brand?"
NYU is certainly turning out to be more insightful than I could have imagined! Can't wait to learn more from these great speakers.
Pic: My one physical memento from the workshop.
