Being one of the most watched and followed fashion events, the Met Gala is on everyone's lips this week. While the Gala is organised as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Costume Institute, the masses are really focused on the fashion designs worn by the stars in attendance. Many designers have a signature style which is unique to them and that is something to be protected. Brands and logos are protected by registered trade marks whereas the clothes themselves need further consideration. Unregistered design right arises automatically in any 3D design if it is a unique shape, and can last for 10 years after the design was first sold or 15 years after it was created (whichever of the two is shorter). In addition, there is the option to seek a registered design. A registered design protects the overall visual appearance, shape and decoration of a product. You can protect 2D designs and surface patterns as well as 3D products. The design must be new and have individual character. NEW WORK: A refreshed brand identity design for a swimwear brand. For women who love the beach, basking in the sun, dipping their toes in the water, and taking in the sea salt breeze. Diving head first in an already oversaturated market where even the best brands could get lost in a sea of identical competitors and lookalikes, the biggest challenge was to reimagine the brand and strategically craft a new identity that helps it stand out. Luckily, the brand had a compelling message. It just needed to be communicated effectively with proper visuals and storytelling. With a focus on the idea of Californian summer and using the same as an angle to tell the brand story, the project features a unique approach that blends the charm and sentimentality of the 70s with the simplicity and elegance of modern times.
