Last week was a whirlwind. I attended my first Collision Conference in Toronto and wanted to take a minute to consolidate some my top learnings: 🍳 Ancillary events like customer breakfasts are definitely worthwhile but take into account other events happening at the same time, traffic, and sending personal reminders to increase awareness and accountability. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and presenting alongside Jason Smith of Klue and Bianca Diana Anghelina of AILY LABS  and sharing tips for growing a #SaaS business. And thanks to Dan Richards for moderating. More to come on this soon. 📅  Conferences are a great way to make new IRL connections. But trying to book 1:1 meetings during a very large conference can be challenging. Make the meetings as accessible as possible and be very precise about the exact meeting location and time. Also ensure that you communicate and confirm all meetings before you start your day. 🇨🇦  Although the Canadian TAM may not reflect the same numbers as America, there is still an incredible opportunity to serve a very important market. Borders are becoming more and more blurred in today’s business environment and key partnerships can unlock a lot more opportunity than you may think. All in all, it was a packed and highly eventful 24 hours at #CollisionConf and I’m already looking forward to my next trip to visit our neighbors to the north.

Post-#jpm2024 has been just as crazy as the conference itself. But I wanted to write a reflection post on my first JPM experience. This photo of the Hilton lobby captures the essence of the conference well... An absolute whirlwind of productive chaos. 🌪 Almost everywhere in downtown SF was bustling with like-minded #lifescience professionals, all on a mission to connect and collaborate. It was a refreshing change from conferences where the conversation often ends if you're not an immediate customer. From scheduled meetings to those impromptu one-on-ones, my days were a blur of insightful conversations and connections that left me inspired. My evenings were carefully curated with a busy schedule of events... or that was my plan anyway. I completely overbooked myself with events every night and was frantically bouncing around. 😵💫 More traveling = less networking! Next time, I'll aim for a more balanced evening schedule, but I have to say, the Bullpen events were the highlight for me. The people there were not only awesome but also the most serious about forging meaningful personal connections and supporting each other's journeys. Some of this Bullpen crew included Jess Hawthorne | Caley Anderson, MBA | John Bonham-Carter | Julie Norville | Victoria Donovan | Ryan Montes, Ph.D. | Anna (Haugo) Argo, MBA | Jason Maidment, MBA | Yanfeng Wang | Julia Taravella | James Zanewicz, JD, LLM, RTTP! And a special mention to Steve Thesing. I was his Uber driver 10 years ago. We've stayed in touch but haven't caught up in person again until last week, and while business was on the agenda, our conversation mainly revolved around life over the past decade. It's truly refreshing when a professional connection turns more personal and less transactional, a trend I expect with many of my new conference contacts! (While the majority of connection I forged at JPM were valuable, these particular people stand out the most.) --- After this experience, I'm convinced that the power of in-person connections is making a strong comeback. We're all a bit worn out from the virtual world of COVID-era networking, endless calls, and cold emails. As we step into this new era of face-to-face interactions, let's remember that #networking isn't just about transactions; it's about building relationships and helping one another succeed. Some people questioned whether it's worth crossing the country for connections, but I can confidently say—it absolutely is! Kicking off the holidays with top-notch networking in LA was an experience that's proven its worth. 🚀✨ Here are three invaluable lessons I took away from this inspiring gathering: 1️⃣ Connection Knows No Bounds: Regardless of the physical distance, technology bridges the gaps between us. SKO 2024, Orlando ~ A Winning Blend of Learning and Fun! ~ Now, after everything has settled, I wanted to share my thoughts on the conference, which was a great experience from start to finish. The networking opportunities provided were exceptional, bringing together professionals from various backgrounds. The atmosphere fostered collaboration and the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, creating an environment where everyone felt comfortable sharing ideas and experiences. It was a true testament to the power of networking, and the emphasis on bringing people together greatly contributed to the overall success of the conference. The conference was a win on multiple levels. The integration of AI into discussions and presentations showcased the cutting-edge advancements in the field, providing valuable insights for professionals across industries. The alignment of these discussions with our common goals highlighted the conference's commitment to addressing shared challenges and working collaboratively towards solutions. In conclusion, the conference was a resounding success, combining the power of networking, insightful discussions on AI, aligned goals, strong partnerships with customers, and enjoyable moments of fun and bonding. I sincerely appreciate the effort and dedication put forth by the organizers to create such a well-rounded and impactful event. In-person events have changed the trajectory of our business. Why? It's serendipitous nature 👀 Pretty much all of our business interactions are online. And I believe that the interactions that we have in-person actually are 5x more meaningful than the ones we have on zoom or email. And it's probably the same for the person that you're talking to as well. That person probably has most meetings online and will genuinely remember you because you had an in-person interaction. There is also the massive serendipitous nature of randomly meeting someone who could change your life. It could be a co-founder, an investor, or even a wife/husband. I know that going to events can be kind of exhausting and you might not want to go after a long day of calls. But ... Go to that event. Tap that person on the shoulder. And let the serendipitous nature of the world do its thing.

A couple weeks I complained the most in-person events sucked. Meeting new people was difficult, if not impossible. So, it's time to walk the walk. On July 18 in Toronto, Nicole Klug and I are hosting an event focused on connections and opportunities.
