Do you ever suffer from choice overload when you’re looking for something to watch? This is a big part of the reason FAST TV is having such a boom. A report from Samsung Ads earlier this year predicted it would be a $480 million market in Australia by 2027. FAST (Free Ad-Supported) TV is curated channels based on themes and genres that looks a lot like old-school linear TV. And @Nine is betting big on the segment, with their CMO Liana Dubois telling Mi3Australia that FAST channels mark a “tipping point and transition moment” for total TV, and that the network has plans to create more FAST channels to cater to viewer niches like reality TV (link in the comments). This is great for advertisers, and for audiences, it means true addressability through a mass medium.

The TV screen is increasingly important for YouTube, outpacing growth on other devices in the home. We saw this already in Nielsen data from the US but new data (Media Nations 2024) shows the same is true in the UK. In the period 2022-23 the average time spent viewing YouTube on a TV set increased by 70%, from 9 minutes to 15 minutes per day, while for 16-34s the increase was even greater, at 93% (9 minutes to 17 minutes). https://lnkd.in/e6KWhiWW

A new article by Business Insider examines the increasing popularity of smart TV and CTV (Connected TV) in India and how this shift is changing the way programming is consumed and monetised. As more and more of India's TV homes become CTV homes and consumers' viewing habits change, a growing number of companies selling these TVs are investing in the real estate on their screens, particularly around content discoverability.
