"the thing about the old days, they the old days" After 28 years at Deloitte, and 26 years in our great partnership, I thought I would use a quote from “The Wire” as I enter retirement from Deloitte this weekend.   To start with, I owe so much to each of my Deloitte colleagues. I have been blessed, fortunate, privileged and flat out lucky to work with you to build and develop my career.     And what a great journey I was lucky enough to enjoy! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to start and lead our finance transformation practice in both the US and globally, the numerous world class clients I had the pleasure to serve, the honor to lead the East Region and our US Markets, the game changing experience to play leadership roles with the Deloitte Foundation and the Monitor Institute and finally to drive change with our Enterprise Portfolio Management team.   Thank you for providing the platform for me to build, to grow, and to lead. Thank you for supporting my development while granting me the broad experience that made me a better person. And thank you for ensuring that the strength of our culture remained so positive during all our success over 28 years. And as I look back on 28 years, it’s amazing to appreciate what Deloitte has become today!   When I joined Deloitte, we were not the largest professional services firm in the world, nor the largest private partnership in the world, nor quite frankly the most respected professional services brand in the world. We are all of that now!! The opportunity to ride the growth has been unreal, and I am truly thankful for the trust and respect you provided throughout my career, and I hope I have properly paid forward.   In addition to being incredibly appreciative and grateful, what good is a farewell post without some unsolicited advice:   Remember that the true measurement of your individual success in our great partnership is how you helped others be successful.  Don’t ever be shy to share you point-of-view and ask the tough questions, but successful collaboration and alignment doesn’t have to prove you were right Do not be an a@*$%ole. And when dealing with one, don’t be afraid to call it out!    Today I am beaming with pride, and like Slim Charles from "The Wire", I am not focusing on the past but aiming to the future.  And in the short term, that means spending time down the shore, (un) successfully trying to break 90 on the golf course, plenty of travel, playing some bridge, support the outstanding missions of Philadelphia Youth Basketball and the DBA Foundation, and hopefully being a cool Poppy. Sam, I remember the two of us driving back from GSI in King of Prussia, where we met with Michael Ruben for 4-5 hours, describing his business model for selling sporting goods online. From the moment we left Henderson Road to the office in Philly, we racked our brains trying to figure out which other industry we could duplicate it in. Thank you for your leadership and for giving us a chance to make the Black Friday deadline.

Sam you raised many people up in your career, including me! You were an empathetic leader before it was “cool”;o). One of the many peices of advice you instilled on me. “Aaron, 95% is just showing up, the other 5% is what you make of it!” So true. Congrats in your retirement and your next chapter!

A long, long time ago when people went to offices every day, you brought smiles to the Philadelphia hallways. I enjoyed being in and out of your ecosystem over the years. Best of luck and congratulations on quite a legacy.
