Founder. School Consultant. Keynote speaker. Psychologist. MIT p/t instructor. UCLA Bruin. I empower caring people to invest in the lives of others - especially the lives of children. #DyslexicThinking #RaisingMoxie
See image of page 15 of my free e-book where I argue we are all responsible for mental health outcomes. It isn’t only parents causing our mental health crisis. It is not just schools causing the mental health crisis. And the politicians aren’t solely responsible (allowing inequities). But, it certainly isn’t the kids. They are a product of the environments we co-create. All adults need to get serious about learning the psychological science. And, Psychologists need to be in the community. We need to be honest about ineffective techniques and get real about the benefits of stress-related growth. We need to say so when our interventions are experimental (especially when attached to major research institutions). Invest in educating adults to foster environments that build wellness! Global Health Executive at World Economic Forum | International Development, Impact Investing, Partnerships & Philanthropy | Driving CSR to Benefit 40,000+ Children
Why is it important to safeguard the mental health of children and youth in the digital age? I write for World Economic Forum's agenda bringing to light this glaring issue. As nearly 60% of the world's population is now online, it's crucial to raise awareness about the potential online risks affecting young minds. While acknowledging the opportunities the internet provides for children and youth, it is equally essential to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the associated mental health risks that come with this digital immersion. Let's prioritize mental health education, implement targeted interventions, and promote a shared understanding of online threats to mental well-being. Together, we can create a safer digital environment for our children and support their mental health. For any outdoor therapist out there, this resource is an essential staple to define competences and the boundaries of the work we do outdoors. For clients, this tool defines safety when working outdoors. Some of the questions that may come up from this are: - What are the therapist's competences to work outdoor? - It this offer therapy or therapeutic? - (depending on the activity) Is the person competent to work outdoors? This is why, the wilderness therapy programme in the Cairngorms I lead as a therapeutic leader also employs a mountain leader. "Competences" is the key word here. And I'm so grateful for this resource for defining competences. 🙏
I am delighted to say that Version 2 of our groundbreaking statement of good practice for Outdoor Therapy and Outdoor Mental Health Interventions is published. This new version responds to requests for greater information on planning and providing ethical outdoor therapy, adds new knowledge and skills statements for outdoor and therapeutic competence, advice on contraindications, and improvements to Indicators of Good Practice. It will be even more valuable as guidance for organisations deploying staff and for individuals to benchmark their own career path. As always, it is a pleasure to work with Dr Kaye Richards, Andy Hardie to keep moving this area of the field forward. The guide is available to download now at: https://lnkd.in/eiP2yM8N
