It often happens that I get so caught up in my daily life (and head) but I am so thankful for having joined Latinos for Education as a 2024 Latino Board Fellow. Connecting with people who have a shared vision of Latino representation, education, and advancement is invigorating and powerful! - 40% of Fortune 1000 companies are inclusive of Latinos on their corporate boards, reflecting a 5 percentage point increase from 2022 – the second most notable increase since 2019. - With most of the progress occurring outside of the Fortune 100, minimal progress continues in the Fortune 100, shifting from 53% to 54% in Latino representation. - While slow, Latino board representation continues to rise. The numbers have increased to 5.4% of Fortune 500 seats held by a Latino and 4.9% among Fortune 1000, a 1% and .8% respectively, one of the most notable increases for both segments since 2020. Please take a look at Latinos for Education and their amazing programs that support communities across the United States

Attention educators, parents, and advocates! Let’s weave together the threads of community engagement and financial empowerment. Visit Jackie Ferrado, the Associate Director for Community Engagement at the WA529 table. WA529 is on a mission to empower Washington families by helping them save for educational expenses. Imagine a future where every student has access to higher education without the burden of excessive debt. That’s the vision we’re working toward. Just as Barbara Hunter emphasizes community engagement to bridge divides, Jackie Ferrado’s work echoes this sentiment. She empowers families to take control of their financial futures. Let’s rally around the idea that every child deserves a shot at higher education. WA529’s programs—GET and DreamAhead—provide flexible options for families to save. Whether it’s a traditional college or a trade school, we’re here to support students’ dreams. Swing by the conference, connect with fellow educators, and explore how community engagement and financial planning intersect. Let’s build bridges, break barriers, and pave the way for a brighter educational future. #WA529 #CommunityEngagement #HigherEducationSavings

This looks a great training for anyone working with youth! Designed with research and policy advocacy in mind, "Disrupting Adultism: Building Authentic Youth Coalitions" training will delve into the concept of adultism, exploring its implications and how it can inadvertently create barriers in youth engagement. More importantly, we will discuss strategies to disrupt these patterns in order to foster an environment that truly values and incorporates youth perspectives. We will explore strategies to foster genuine partnerships with young people, enabling them to become active participants in decision-making processes. By the end of this training, participants will have an introduction to the knowledge and tools needed to build authentic youth coalitions, ensuring that our future leaders are not just seen, but heard, respected, and actively involved in shaping the world around them. https://lnkd.in/gTp5Ppmp

I was privileged as a board member of Collaborative Healing Initiative Within Communities to attend a press conference yesterday at which our CEO Sade Cooper, along with State Representative Jennifer Bacon (she, her) and State Senator James Coleman and other leaders formally announced introducing legislation which would empower a detailed racial justice (or injustices as the case may be) study in the State of Colorado. This initiative, titled Justice for Black Coloradans, is an historic step forward in identifying, documenting and understanding the specific policies and actions over the past 150 years Colorado has been a state that have contributed to the enormous disparities in education, income, wealth, and other economic opportunities between black Coloradans and so many of their fellow citizens. This vanguard study, to be led by History Colorado and funded by private sector donations, can lay the groundwork for smart, compassionate and consensus-driven policies to ameliorate the obvious legacy of historical (and on-going) injustices and ensuring a future of equal justice for all of us. As one of the speakers yesterday aptly remarked, this isn’t about critical race theory but about critical race history. What is proposed is just a study, but is nonetheless a monumental step forward in a rational path to justice and reconciliation. If you are interested you can learn more about it at https://lnkd.in/gXqEqpvp.

At Forward Ability Support we are always looking at how we can improve outcomes for those that we support including supporting research into SCI and the associated conditions.
Recently a member of our team Keith McNaughton met residents, staff and clinicians at Ferguson Lodge, run by Forward Ability Support It was a great opportunity to meet everyone, give an update on our current trials and studies, and to invite everyone to participate in exciting research. Thanks to Sharis Matevossian Doumit (Community Engagement Manager) and Sarah (Director of Home and Living Supports) for hosting the morning and particularly the residents for meeting with us.

📣Appropriations Update 📣 We want to thank everyone who took action this week to protect funding for @AmeriCorps & @AmeriCorpsNCCC, and the vital resources they provide community-based organizations all over the country. This week, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would jeopardize more than 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, risking the loss of vital resources for community-based organizations all over the country in 2026. Congress still has opportunities to protect and strengthen this funding, and we’ll need advocates like you to voice your support in the months ahead. ➡️️ TAKE ACTION: Urge Congress to reconsider this decision and protect funding for AmeriCorps by filling out this form, bit.ly/CCFY25, or share this and tag your representative, asking them to #Stand4Service [Image description: 1 graphic a black background saying, ‘Congress just jeaprodized 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, including vital roles at FoodCorps' and all capitalized text saying, ‘take action.’]
