#ThrowbackThursday: The Venturi vacuum system, a fluid dynamic marvel, is vital to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency's (#DPAA) underwater recovery missions. Operating on the #VenturiEffect, this system propels fluid through a nozzle, creating a low-pressure zone that efficiently dredges sediment. With no moving parts, minimal maintenance, and a compact, cost-effective design, the Venturi system, used by NAVSEA NEDU divers, plays a pivotal role in the dark depths. Descending 80 feet, divers utilize 8-inch vacuum systems to sift through the mud as thick as wet cement, searching for personal effects or aircraft wreckage. One standout mission occurred off the coast of Papua New Guinea, recovering remains from the B-24 bomber "Heaven Can Wait." The Venturi vacuum system, an unsung hero, aided divers in their quest for material and osseous evidence, reflecting the tireless efforts repeated daily in murky depths. "Tool performed great. TD was at 14,387 MD and 14,332 TVD. We had absolutely no problem with the signal, and we were still downlinking with no problem at TD. At TD, we were running 2 hertz, 17 watts, and the signal to noise ratio was 6.5.
