A common measure of Leadership ability is a talent for Ideas Development that will translate into wonderful policies. Sounds straightforward enough, no? The difference is that a Leader isn’t trying to trade goods or services on the basis of “willing buyer, willing seller”. A Leader is looking to implement ideas that are certain to affect the lives of their constituents, and potentially the lives of generations that follow. Forget about metaphors involving cheese moving hither and tither, Policy Development can become very uncomfortable for many constituents very quickly. One area that we identified through our research was the unique benefit of using co-leadership in organisations with a heavy focus on advocacy. In addition to the myriad of challenges faced as a leader of an impact-led organisation, the advocacy leader must themselves be an advocate for their cause.
