How important is the Pharmacist to Pharmacy Technician ratio? The laws on this topic vary from state to state and have been criticized in recent years. The ratios are an attempt to find a balance between providing assistance to the pharmacist operating the pharmacy while maintaining adequate supervision of their pharmacy technicians. The ratio ranges from 1:2 in states such as Iowa to 1:6 in Texas. Some states have no limit at all! The argument for more technicians is it allows the pharmacist to devote their time to more clinical tasks, however, misconduct by an unsupervised technicians can result in significant patient harm. Most Pharmacists I speak to seem to agree on 1:3 being the most efficient, safest ratio. What do you think the ideal ratio is? #pharmaciststaffing #pharmacystaffing #pharmacyjobs #pharmacy #pharmacist #pharmacytechnician #statelaws
