Friday was my last day at Microsoft. After 8.5 years, it's time for me to say goodbye.     When I first walked into the Microsoft Hyderabad campus in 2016, it felt like I was walking into a temple. After all these years, I still feel the same way about this company.  A few experiences and learnings that I'll remember lifetime:     1) During my first year at Microsoft, as part of a project, I worked with a person who had ~25 years of exp in Microsoft (that's almost my age!). I was somewhat intimidated with his vast background. But to my surprise, he genuinely sought my suggestions and even tried to learn a few things from me. That was my intro to 'learn-it-all' culture. 2) A peer of mine once walked up to me randomly in an event and said this twice with confidence: "I'm really betting on you that you will do great!". He really meant it. (I almost felt ashamed that, until that point, I hadn't thought about any of my peers in that light).     3) There's a section in Microsoft's performance review that asks you to write about "What could you have done differently for even greater impact?". I found this to be so powerful. To stop and reflect every 6 months on my shortcomings and how I could overcome them in next cycle was probably the single biggest contributor towards my learning. 4) So many employees live and breathe the concept of 'growth mindset' everyday. It's amazing to see how frequently it appears as part of the day-to-day conversations.     5) When you are 8000 miles away from the headquarters, you face some challenges by design – limited teams around you to collaborate, lack of facetime with execs, WLB issues etc. It was very inspiring to work under some true global leaders who understand this dynamic and fully supported the teams in India. I'm very thankful to them.     6) An analyst on my team once missed to ack a case on time. In the team meeting, when asked about it, the analyst admitted that she missed her shift that day because she wasn't aware of it. She could have very well made some other excuse, but her honesty showed we were building a right culture. 7) I learnt that there are 2 types of companies – ones that offer 'jobs' and ones that offer 'careers'. I could move teams, change roles, change disciplines working through the system to meet my career goals. 8) Some of the values advocated at the company have profoundly improved my relations in life. A seemingly simple principle like "Do not assume," when deeply understood, is a powerful game changer. Microsoft was more than a workplace for me. It was a temple of learning and growth. I want to take a moment and thank such a wonderful company for everything ❤️ And I wish my fantastic colleagues over there continued success! Grateful for the journey. Excited for what's next. In my next adventure, I'll be joining Google's security team in Hyderabad protecting their enterprise & cloud environments. #microsoft #microsoftidc #microsoftsecurity #learning #microsoftindia
