If any of you have read the stories about locals in Barcelona shooting at tourists with water guns and yelling at them to "go home", then you're not a stranger to two things: (1) overtourism is a massive problem, and (2) if something isn't done about it, people are going to start taking things into their own hands. Next week (Friday, August 30th at 12pm ET), I'm thrilled to be sitting down with The New York Times journalist Paige McClanahan who recently published The New Tourist: Waking Up to the Power and Perils of Travel. We're going to talk about overtourism, yes, but we're also going to talk about WHAT TO DO NEXT. Is it enough to just tell travelers to stop going places? What are the systems that need to change, and who is responsible for changing them? I hope you join us for what promises to be a fascinating fireside chat. It's one of the many supremely interesting conversations we have inside our Wanderful community. To join, click this link (https://lnkd.in/eVhkvun3), activate a free trial if you're not a member yet, and RSVP to the event. If you love what we're about, hang around --we'd love to keep you in our community! If not, you can cancel easily with one click after the event is over. Hope to see you all there! #TravelIndustry #TravelMedia #Overtourism #Travel #SocialImpact #Tourism

So glad to see discussions on this topic! I wrote an article on my blog a few years ago addressing overtourism in 'bucket list' destinations and needless to say, it isn't getting any better. Looking forward to this event! https://stayingafloatblog.com/2019/05/11/the-bucket-list-epidemic/
