Sustainability is core to our business, and as we always keep reiterating – ‘There is no luxury without sustainability’ . Mercedes-Benz sustainability dialogue was held in New Delhi and my colleagues at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India really went to a great extent to get policy makers, thought leaders and various stakeholders engaged in an insightful dialogue. Thanks to Renata Jungo Brüngger for joining us and sharing her perspectives and explaining our strategic goals. For me, the key highlight was the focus of our Government to use Green energy as a pivot to acclerate towards Viksit Bharat. Thanks Amitabh Kant for sharing these perspectives. For the benefit of my LinkedIn followers, I am sharing a few of his insights and thoughts that really caught my attention. - India will create a Chicago every 4 years due to rapid urbanisation. - If our per car penetration has to increase from current 24 cars per 1000 people, compared to the high triple digit numbers of other devloped countries, we must take a lead in the transition to electromobility to balance the environmental impact. - The Auto industry currently accounts to 20% of greenhouse emissions, and to curb these we have to prioritize decarbonization. - India is the only country to meet the climate targets set under the Paris Agreement way ahead of the schedule. With over 200Gw in renewables today, our commitment towards sustainability is strengthening with each passing day. - India, as a country has a significant advantage on the renewable energy due to its climatic conditions and also to innovate at large scale at a comparatively lower cost. - We will generate Renewable energy at lowest prices in the world as we are climactically blessed ans we will use scale effects. - The country aims to be the green powerhouse and net exporter of energy by 2047. I was pleased to hear Amitabh Kant’s views on electrification and sustainable tomorrow. Our thoughts completely align, and we are happy to see the government promoting electric vehicles and ensuring a carbon neutral mobility. At Mercedes-Benz India we are continuously working towards strengthening our BEV portfolio. Tomorrow, we are also launching our most exquisite BEV – The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. It is the first ever Electric Maybach. Right from our sporty EQA to top-of-the-line Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, we are trying to serve every customer segment. There couldn’t have been a better time to support this goal to make India the ‘Green Mobility’ destination of the world. #sustainability #Decarbonisation #BEV #electricvehicles #publicpolicy #Luxury

Electromobility is not a choice but a compulsion if we want more vehicles on the road and want our people to breath less polluted air. In addition to bringing lessor exhaust pollution to more congested area, it also reduces burden of import of fossil fuel. Let us fulfil our responsibility towards sustainable India/world.

Perhaps a concept change, along with the major energy change phase make a revolutionary change in the automotive industry. Unfortunately, the automotive industry is continuing to implement the most expensive, carry and move concept and facing the severe drawbacks. A simple pull, get pushed and move concept can save more than 80% of energy and drastically reduce the manufacturing and maintenance costs of vehicles (at least 50%).

What about indirect carbon offset? There are lot of other touch points in the automobile value chain that are carbon intensive. I am sure Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India is solving for them too.

Thank you for sharing these inspiring insights into Mercedes-Benz's sustainability journey and the pivotal role of green energy in shaping a sustainable future for #India. The commitment to #decarbonization and electrification is truly commendable, and it aligns closely with the principles we uphold in the wellness industry Sustainability is not just about environmental responsibility but also about nurturing the well-being of individuals and communities. A partnership between Mercedes-Benz and wellness resorts could add significant value to your sustainability mission in several ways including offsetting carbon emissions with reforestation programmes for MB owners. Santosh Iyer ji, we can discuss further if this alligns with Mercedes-Benz India 's goals. However, its great initiative and a moment to celebrate as we all become more environmentally conscious. Ultimately, its all for the wellbeing of humanity.

It"s heartening to see that #MercedesBenz is pursuing a holistic approach. With "Ambition 2039" and "Design for Environment”, they are supposed to be pursuing the goal of a fully networked and net carbon-neutral fleet of new vehicles in 2039 – 11 years earlier than EU legislation stipulates ♻️ Net carbon-neutral means that carbon emissions that are not avoided or reduced at Mercedes-Benz are compensated for by certified offsetting projects which is indeed commendable for a #luxury car brand. Special attention is being paid to the conscious and careful use of non-renewable as well as renewable resources. The company seems to be working intensively on closing material cycles, significantly increasing the proportion of recycled materials in its vehicles and researching new materials that are in harmony with nature♻️ Kudos Mercedes-Benz India for the green initiative and efforts to reduce the carbon footprint! #greenplanet #renewableenergy #sustainability
