Happy #EYsummerbreak! So grateful to have spent the week traveling and adventuring with my two sons to visit family in Victoria, British Columbia and friends in Seattle. Looking forward to climbing new heights this fiscal year: refreshed, reconnected and recharged.

Hey fellow wanderers
As I sit here, miles away from the comforting embrace of my homeland, I find myself engulfed in a wave of nostalgia.
There's something about being away from home that makes you yearn for the touch, feel, and aura of the place that shaped you.
Today, I want to open up a conversation about that universal feeling of missing home.
🏡 Home is more than just a physical place; it's a collection of memories, traditions, and the warmth of familiar surroundings.
Whether it's the aroma of home-cooked meals, the vibrant traditions that paint the tapestry of our lives, or the little things that make our homeland uniquely beautiful – these are the threads that weave the fabric of our identity.
So, my fellow global citizens, do you find yourself missing the essence of your homeland?
Let's share our thoughts in the comments below. What specific aspects do you miss the most?
Is it the taste of a traditional dish, the sound of familiar music, or perhaps the annual festivities that make your heart ache a little?
📝 I've also created a survey form to dig deeper into this collective sentiment.
Let's understand together what it is that tugs at our hearts when we're away. Your insights are valuable, and together, we can create a mosaic of experiences that connect us across borders.

What if we made Celebration a core value?
When people hear that I live in Puerto Rico, they often say “Wow, what’s that like?”
Yes, there are beautiful beaches, tropical weather, tax benefits, blue waters, and the only bona fide rainforest on American (sort of) soil. There is also limited access to healthcare, potholes, long lines, an inconsistent power grid, and an occasionally frustrating lack of adherence to traffic rules.
What tips the scales for me is what you see in this video. Where else in the world am I going to find an impromptu concert breaking out at the boarding gate in an airport at 6 a.m.?
What are they celebrating? Nothing at all except that they are together, they have air in their lungs, and they happen to have some musical instruments within arm's reach.
For an ambitious, driven person like me who worships at the altar of Productivity way more often than I would like to admit, I like being in a place that constantly reminds me it’s okay to celebrate, just because.
I like being in a place where the passengers break out into applause whenever their airplane lands. Every. Single. Time.
I like being in a place where where my kids’ 3rd grade Social Studies textbook has an entire chapter devoted to the cultural virtue of Celebration. Not celebrating a day or an event--just celebrating to celebrate because life is worth celebrating, period.
I wonder what would happen to the loneliness and mental health epidemics plaguing our workforce and our society if we added “celebration” to our mainstay corporate values like “integrity” and “excellence," et al.
In the meantime, let’s just celebrate the fact that today is Friday and we can. 🎉

From the desk of Dr. Gerilyn Davis:
Happy Memorial Day to you! I hope you are enjoying time with family and friends. I love the holidays as I reflect on my ability to connect with others and work on intergenerational relationships.
I love holiday time because it allows me to learn and spend time with those more senior than me as well as those younger than me. Here are a few things to remember as we connect on this holiday.
--- VALUE OF CONNECTION: When we seek the value in those who have come before us, we recognize that we all began from someone.
--- VALUE OF NOSTALGIA: I get the best stories and insights as I witness those more senior, reflecting on their lives. Thus, this prompts me to reflect on my own.
--- VALUE THE NEWNESS: Each new generation brings new insight and learning. I love hearing the new generation's perspectives. It keeps me on my toes.
Enjoy your holiday!

You don’t need to work for someone else to achieve your dreams. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆?
This is a lesson we can learn from none other than Allyson Felix (@allysonfelix)—the most decorated Track & Field Olympian in history. A nine-time Olympic medalist. Six-time Olympic Champion. World Record Holder.
Her journey is a testament to the power of authenticity and determination. She didn’t settle for anything less than her dreams. She pushed through barriers, broke records, and created her own destiny.

Today marks International Day of Families, and it’s the perfect moment for me to reflect a bit about the ups and downs my own family has navigated.
🗺 We've seen our fair share of challenges, but it’s our resilience and deep-rooted commitment to each other that have truly defined our journey.
💪🏽 Life hasn’t always been smooth, but with every setback, my family has shown an incredible ability to adapt and bounce back, stronger than before.
😄 It's the little moments of support, the shared laughs after tears, and our collective stubbornness to stick together that have made all the difference.
🔧 We’ve built, bent, and even broken at times, but through each phase, we’ve remade our bonds, growing closer and more supportive.
🌱 For us, resilience isn’t just bouncing back—it's about growing together and finding new ways to connect and support each other, no matter what life throws our way.
💗 So here’s to all the families out there, each with their own unique story of resilience and love.
🎉 Today, I celebrate how we’ve built, rebuilt, and cherished our family through all of life’s adventures.
I love you both. 🥰

Can you just imagine....us without this👇
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
🎯Freedom: We have the freedom to do what we want, believe in what we want, and say what we want and to do so without persecution. For many in the world, this is not true. In America…we can.🇺🇲
🫶Diversity: We are a melting pot. Every nation, race and color is represented in America. The diversity of every man, woman, and child is what makes our country strong.🇺🇲
👌Opportunity: This is the land of opportunity. If you work hard enough, and persevere through failures and setbacks, you can still achieve success in the United States. The spirit of America lives and we see it every day with hard-working people, small businesses, entrepreneurs with a vision and determination, and the dreamers who are out there wanting a better life.🇺🇲
🙌Volunteerism: People in the United States love to help. Whether it’s around the globe or next door when people are in need, the people of American help. We see this all the time with our senior care. We have seen friends and family members and virtual strangers lend a hand after a horrific storm or deliver hot meals to home-bound seniors. We have seen the resiliency of Americans numerous times after 9/11 as everyone pitches in and helps. When there is a need, Americans rise to lend a helping hand (and ask for nothing in return). We should be very proud of our fellow Americans.🇺🇲
✨️Beauty: Have you looked outside lately? Have you driven across our wide-open country? It’s beautiful. Each region of our country has special beauty that if you pull over and look out, you’ll be pretty impressed with our mountains, lakes, beaches, rivers, the open plains, and everything else. Even the large city landscapes and open parks are something to love.🇺🇲
So let’s proudly display the 🇺🇸American flag today and every day!
🇺🇸Happy 4th Vetwork!🇺🇸

🌟 Reflecting on Personal Growth, Family, and Home 🏡
As we embark on our journey of personal growth, we often leave the familiar comforts of home in pursuit of education, career opportunities, and self-discovery. Driven by ambition and the quest for a brighter future, we venture far from the embrace of our families. Yet, with time comes reflection, and amidst the hustle and bustle of our pursuits, we come to realize that true peace and contentment reside within the walls of our homes.
However, as careers take us to distant lands, siblings often find themselves separated, unable to celebrate festivals and special occasions together. The absence of shared laughter and cherished traditions serves as a poignant reminder of the bonds that tie us to our roots.Right Anirban Ghosh ?
Let's cherish the moments spent with loved ones, for they are the true source of happiness and fulfillment. Whether near or far, may we always carry the essence of home within us, grounding us in times of uncertainty and guiding us towards a life of purpose and harmony.

Today marks the Native American Heritage Day in the United States, coinciding with Black Friday. RISE Travel Institute wants to share two valuable resources to encourage a thoughtful perspective on these occasions from an anti-oppression standpoint. The first resource is an article that explores how we can leverage our consumer power (by abstaining from Black Friday shopping) to protest injustices within our economic system. The second is a blog post by our very own Natalie Amezcua, M.A Humane Education, providing insights on decolonizing Native American Heritage Day and the US Thanksgiving holidays. Enjoy the read!
