I’m thrilled to share the news that I’ll be stepping in to lead our global People, Culture and Communications team at Beam Suntory. This is a transformative time for the company and I’m honored to be taking the reins from the inimitable Paula Erickson who will be retiring on April 1. Paula and I have had the pleasure of working together for many years and quite closely for the last few. A highly respected leader and culture builder, Paula has made an amazing impact and leaves a strong legacy in the kind of company Beam Suntory is today. I’d like to thank Paula for her support and leadership over the years and for her confidence in me as I step into some (very) big shoes!

The joy when relationships built in challenging times over multiple years finally move from virtual to ‘high definition’! Reflecting, celebrating, strategising…all important of course, but ultimately the most important part for me is being together! #unleashyourspirit #bettertogether

One of our values is Yatte Minahare which essentially means go for it, take a risk and ‘you won’t know if you don’t try.’ So how did we apply this to our virtual team building activity this week? (beyond dress ups and drinks which we are also fully embracing!) Thanks to the creativity of a couple of clever folk in my team we had a virtual cooking competition and got the family involved too. Mystery ingredients were delivered to our homes (including Suntory Premium Malts for hydration of course!), teams set up and instructions given live at cooking time. We even had a mystery judge join at the end. So much fun and we especially loved being able to involve families in our team building. I totally related to this article! It's really not easy juggling different parts of our lives all now 24/7 in the same space! Each week I'm experimenting with different approaches for how I manage my time to see what works best. Needless to say I'm still experimenting, but learning what works best for me, and those around me! I'm also trying to encourage my team to feel super comfortable letting work/life blend as necessary. This includes having their kids join calls, say hi at meetings, or even join a coffee catchup or happy hour. Sometimes they just want to pop by and wave, or just sit close to Mum or Dad as part of their coping strategy during these strange times. My biggest challenge - ensuring I have time for me. Time to regroup with myself, have some time out, refresh and reenergise beyond time with and for others. This I need to keep working on!

Totally agree! Across Suntory we look for the desire to challenge, take on challenges and stretch beyond what’s possible in our leaders. Then we strive to give our people opportunities to stretch and grow - with support! These mindsets will build all our futures in an ever changing world. Courage over comfort is how we all grow!
