Over two action-packed days, more than 600 enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds, including the private sector, government, academia, and family offices from Brazil, came together to discuss pivotal sustainability initiatives. During this momentous event, I had the honor of addressing the audience and shedding light on our strategic partnership with UN Global Compact Brazil. Sustainovation: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Business as We Prepare for #COP28 In June of this year, Ehfaaz hosted the first-of-its-kind #Sustainovation event, a private sector gathering tailored to the #FMCG sector. The event provided a unique opportunity to engage in thoughtful conversations, exchange #ideas, and foster #collaborations that will shape the future of #sustainability in our industry. We are proud to have brought together a distinguished group of #changemakers, including representatives from #FMCGs, governments, and NGOs. The event was a resounding success, and we were thrilled to see the level of engagement and enthusiasm from all attendees. One of the key #takeaways from the event was that #sustainovation is not just about doing the right thing for the #planet, it is also about doing the right thing for business. Companies that are able to #innovate and embrace #sustainable practices will be we'll-positioned to succeed in the future and play their part to achieve the goals set by #COP. Another key #takeaway was the importance of #collaboration. The #FMCG sector is complex and interconnected, so it is essential for companies to work together to address #sustainability challenges. Had the opportunity to moderate a pre #COP28 panel with Climate Fresk Singapore last evening at NVPC - Towards a City of Good. It was a privilege to speak with my fellow panelists Adam Reutens-Tan, Keziah Quek, and Rishika Selvan representing perspectives from philanthropy, corporate and youth respectively. The audience was also fully engaged and asked insightful questions that helped shape our conversations around general #sustainability matters and what it means for different #stakeholders. Some personal takeaways: 💡Corporates may use #consumerism as a way to drive sustainability. For instance charging a green premium for a "greener" version of their products. When overdone, it can be #greenwashing. Hence, it is important for consumers to be educated on what is truly sustainable and necessary for their own lifestyles. 💡Beyond just reporting and setting targets, Corporates could place more attention in developing real #innovative solutions or reflect on their own internal implementation of relevant policies/practices. 💡More clarity and discussions are needed on how to quantify #naturalresources (especially #biodiversity) to be accounted for in a corporation's balance sheet. 💡Corporates could explore collaborations with philanthropies to trial and implement #impact valuation together, in order for sustainability to be better adopted. 💡Green #philanthropy can be a challenge as it is not easy to convince donors to choose sustainability over other already impactful projects. A good way to approach the problem is to embed sustainability aspects into already existing portfolios. 💡There are many ways #youths can be involved. They are the driving force that hold corporations #accountable for commitments, and also an important group that philanthropies already donate to. Hence, there is a lot of #potential to be realized by supporting youths that are driving sustainability initiatives. 💡#Individual actions can make a lot of difference. Corporates and Countries are made up of individuals and it is the action on the ground that can drive real change. The #collective efforts of individuals can result in much more than the sum of individuals as there will be external #multipliereffects. #COP28 is one example of leveraging and amplifying the multiplier effects. When people come together for a #commoninterest, it drives more energy, awareness and pressure for alignment and action. There are definitely ways for an individual to keep up to date with the happenings at #COP28. I will send the links to follow in the comments section below. On a side note: I also had the opportunity to explain basic #climatescience in Mandarin to some slightly more elder adults. It prompted me to think of how these engagements can be more #inclusive and the possibility for more #intergenerational conversations in the #sustainability space.

An important event on the gender equality and climate change nexus. Encouraging anyone in Dubai to attend! This two-part discussion, co-hosted by the Feminist Action for Climate Justice (FACJ) Action Coalition and the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), will bring together a wide range of stakeholders for an achievement-oriented discussion of how to empower an inclusive and equitable just transition where care and land rights and tenure security converge to drive meaningful change. They will highlight the voices and agency often overlooked in decision-making and discussion including grassroots communities, Indigenous and rural women, and youth. The discussion also consider how to support the importance of research and data for the foundation of policies with a gender focus for a just climate transition, and will connect the gender transition for land rights and the economy of care to the COP28 negotiations and broader policy context.

The UN Biodiversity Conference (#COP16) kicks off in less than 100 days in Colombia. Today, leaders of 130+ companies with combined revenues of US$1.1 trillion are urging governments to affirm ambitious #NaturePositive policies, with five clear policy recommendations. Reversing nature loss 🌱 requires shared responsibility 🤝 and a transformation of the global financial system. One recommendation: align all public and private financial flows to transition to a nature-positive, #NetZero and equitable economy. Businesses including Salesforce, Novonesis, Natura &Co, Unilever, Safaricom PLC and Inter IKEA Group have joined forces to support this transformation.
