We all roughly have 2000 work weeks in our careers. Choosing how to allocate these, might be the most important decision of our lives. So how do we use the little time that we have on this earth best? That number really stuck in my head after reading Rutger Bregman’s new book #MoralAmbition. 💡 2000 work weeks = on average 40-45 working years between roughly 25 yrs - 70 yrs where we know we can be active. For me it was an eye opener: I’m almost half way my working years?! Time flies! It made me reflect on how little time we have to get stuff done! Every day counts. Rutger invites us to use our time to be morally ambitious. Moral Ambition is the will to make the world a WILDLY BETTER PLACE. I’ve been privileged to be able to make my mission of using business as a force for good my full-time job over the last 15 years. And still it is important to constantly challenge oneself and not rest on the laurels of “working in impact”, but always pushing oneself to do better. Many still see doing good as something they do “on the side” or as a hobby. Others again believe in the model of maximizing their income and then at the end of their career donating their money. Of course we need to make money to live our lives and support our families. So how can we make our work about making the world a better place? The The School for Moral Ambition helps people make that step How? → for initial inspiration and tons of examples: read Rutger’s new book (out in Dutch, pre-order German & English) → for tools that help you to find your own moral ambition: join a Moral Ambition Circle (https://lnkd.in/eDZSd4jj) → to join the elite squad team of 24 people p.a. who want to tackle the issue of smoking and alternative proteins at the School: (fellowship applications for this year already closed - but get ready for next year!! https://lnkd.in/ek7yayKW) Have you figured out how you want to use whatever is left of your 2000 work weeks?! Beautifully said, Saskia - there might be different paths towards maximizing one's impact and prioritizing it relentlessly! And in my case, I haven't even entered the official count of 2000 weeks, but have already been for 7 years on the impact journey.
Great Saskia Bruysten! For everyone interested in joining our Circle program: you can attend the webinar from Marijn Scheltens this Thursday (in Dutch). https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6917116255388/WN_ELLd1sHbT3a4JdKfec2DwA#/registration
Thank you, Saskia! We are fortunate to have you on our board, joining us in building that movement for #moralambition together 📣
Will definitely read this! There is nothing more important than our time here on earth, and it’s so valuable to remind each other of it regularly. Although we all want to have an impact, it's a journey to figure out how we can best leverage our talents. Being on this journey together with like-minded people is crucial. Thank you, Saskia, for pointing this out for us!
So true.. clarity in this is a gamechanger.. Rutgers vision sounds so exciting!
Halfway 2000 weeks? I guess I’m beyond. All the more reason to focus on the most urgent issues! And have heaps of fun doing so. Thanks Saskia Bruysten for joining🔥
Yeehaa, but yeah also "oh wow, halfway there?!?". Happy to be there with you working on the school though! Germany is next up!
Thanks for the inspiration Saskia! I've been 'working in impact' for over 10 years and constantly coming back to the question - is this the most effective way I can maximize impact?
Thanks for sharing this, Saskia!
