INCANTIERI TO BUILD METHANOL-READY HYBRID CSOV PAIR Fincantieri has announced that Windward Offshore consortium has exercised options for the design and construction of two hybrid Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) that will be prepared for future operation on green methanol. This latest contract follows an initial order with Fincantieri’s subsidiary Vard in October 2023 for two vessels which will be delivered in Q3 2025 and Q1 2026. The 87.5-metre-long vessels, which will be equipped with a hybrid battery system, will support energy majors globally in constructing, commissioning, and maintaining offshore wind parks. The chief exec of Singapore’s major shipyard Seatrium expects that the recent downturn in the offshore wind business is merely ”a blip.” And not necessarily a bad thing. Actually, the slump is a good thing, as it forces companies to look critically at their costs and prices and adapt to today’s economic reality, says the chief executive of Singapore’s Seatrium, Chris Ong, who has headed the merger of Keppel Offshore & Marine and Sembcorp Marine Ltd since the approval in March this year. ”I think that the fundamentals of the renewables market are very strong. The relevance of the energy transition is very strong. WindFloat Atlantic, the semisubmersible #floatingoffshorewind farm offshore Portugal’s west coast, is entering its fourth year of service. OW Ocean Winds, the joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE which developed this pilot project using floaters designed by Principle Power, is now moving ahead with a second floating pre-commercial project in the Mediterranean Sea #offshore southwest France, Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion. Fabrication of the three floating structures is underway and installation should follow in 2024/25.
