One of the most effective ways to ensure your child's safety is by teaching them emergency numbers. 📞 Start early! Introduce these crucial numbers when your child is developmentally ready to grasp the concept. Teach 9-1-1 for emergencies and important contacts like mom, dad, or a trusted neighbour. 📲 Remember, knowledge is empowerment! Arm your child with the tools to act confidently in unexpected situations. Together, let's create a safer environment for our precious ones. 🤗 Invest in your child's safety and your peace of mind. Has your organisation conducted a survey from the Institute of Child Protection Studies Children and Young People's Safety (CAYPS) project? We have developed a tool to help organisations that have conducted a CAYPS survey see how your results align with the Australian National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The methodology for this survey was originally developed to inform the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (2017). The National Principles reflect ten child safe standards recommended by the Royal Commission and cover not only child sexual abuse but also other forms of potential harm to children and young people. The grid format aligns CAYPS survey questions to the National Principles to help you identify areas in governance and practice in your organisation that need to become more child safe. When it comes to safeguarding children, it's not just about teaching them basic skills—it's about empowering them with the knowledge of what truly counts in life. "Teaching children to count is good, but teaching them what counts is better." This quote resonates deeply in our efforts to keep children safe. As educators, parents, and guardians, it's our responsibility to equip children with the tools they need to navigate the world safely. This includes teaching them about their rights, personal safety, boundaries, respect for themselves and others, and how to recognise and respond to unsafe situations. Ultimately, instilling these fundamental values and understanding what truly counts in terms of their wellbeing and safety is essential for empowering children to protect themselves and seek help when needed. #Safeguarding #ChildProtection

Head Start programs continue to prioritize a common goal regarding "Child Health and Safety" standards: Reduce or eliminate children's risk of exposure to harm and hazards. OHS expects each child served in Head Start and Early Head Start programs to be properly safeguarded. As a major part of many communities where vulnerable children and families live, Head Start programs will be a safe space for them to thrive. Head Start programs have been familiar and welcoming places for children and families for decades. OHS will ensure that programs remain safe environments that children and families can trust for the critical services they need to support their success. We must continue to share and implement proactive solutions for this initiative. #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart #EnhancingSafetyPractices #HealthandSafety #TheGravelyGroup

Trusting their instincts is crucial. 🚫 Secrets: Remind them there should be no secrets, especially from parents or caregivers. 💪 Empowerment: Teach that their bodies belong to them, and they have the right to protect themselves. It was an early start for me this morning. I provided a 'lunch and learn session' from the US to the UK for North East's Association of Directors of Children's Services' Contextual Safeguarding Learning Programme. The session was well attended, and there were lots of great questions and feedback. As I prepare to share on this topic, I'm reminded of why we expanded our latest program portfolio, RAI to include Child abuse. Check out Child Solidarity Group for details. One of the things we don't emphasize enough is that intervention can relapse. For child survivors who don't know what support they need and often depend on systems to work as they should, an intervention should address their long term needs and be holistic. Otherwise, the situation exposes survivors to a situation of "double Jeopardy" and could cause even greater harm than the actual problem for survivors. The latest report by Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute reveals that OCSEA is on the increase and exist in all countries it's be tested. Children are now unsafe online and offline more than ever and we need to ACT NOW.
