Finally Somehow Home - Chapter 7.1 (excerpt) Marine Corps Infantry is the best conventional force in the world today when it comes to killing shit. On liberty or in combat, a Marine Infantry Company is a fucking god damn confounding and brutal whirlwind wrought direct from the depths of a cold wet hell. Everyone in the Marine Corps supports the grunts. Everyone. Fucking Everyone. But the grunts had it rough. The roughest of anyone in the Corps. And they got killed the most. So, let’s just cover this while we’re on the subject, the whole “women in the military” thing. I’m ok with it if that’s what everyone wants, and I know afew women who would be great at it, just understand that when you put women in combat roles… well… a lot more of those people die, that’s one reason women have been historically left out of those roles, but not the only one. So, why should only the boys get the jobs where everyone gets killed? That’s equally sexist against men, you say. Well, when I see an NFL team start and play mostly women throughout the whole Super Bowl against an all male team, and they win, I’ll believe that it’s just as hard to take a woman’s life as it is to take a man’s life. And that is the test at the end of the day. Because when you start losing you lose more. When more infantrymen die, more infantrymen tend to die because of it. It is an exponentially compounding problem. Do whatever you want with women in combat roles. But please understand the facts of why they haven’t been there up until now, that’s all. I personally don’t like that my daughter has an equal chance of being drafted and a compounded lower probability of survival if she is, but I’m sure she’ll be fine as long as everyone is happy and we never actually have to kill other humans. Generals aren’t sexist, it’s killing that’s sexist. And it’s sexist as fuck. Veterans' Day: Navigating Honor in a Post-Modern Society The question of whether we should honor our veterans presents a multifaceted issue. On the one hand, the public recognition of veterans acknowledges their unusual and extraordinary sacrifices in service of a nation. It is about a community openly expressing gratitude for the bravery and selflessness service of those who have worn the uniform. On the other hand, an uncritical reverence perpetuates a simplistic view of military service, overlooking the intricate layers of its complexities, particularly those of armed forces and the democratic nations they serve. There is a real danger in blind celebration in so far that such narratives of heroism and sacrifice ultimately perpetuate militarism. Honoring veterans should foster a sense of unity and collective identity crucial in navigating the complexities of postmodern society. Yet honoring veterans also demands a critical examination of the societal structures that enable militarism and the heedless tribute of war. A veteran’s day should ultimately advance the recognition of those who have served and embody the shared values that bind us together. It should reflect our gratitude for the men and women who serve, but also serve as a rather subtle warning that war is a very real threat – and some have been called to fight in them. This short video never fails to send shivers down my spine… There are nearly 2 million living women veterans in the United States… Women currently make up approximately 10% of the overall veteran population… Veterans make up 14% of the men in America…but among women in America, only 1.5% are veterans. ➡️ In order to meet 1 woman veteran, you may have to meet 69 women. ➡️ To meet just one woman under age 35 who has served in the military, you may have to meet 102 women of that age group. ➡️ The median age of male veterans is 65 years, while the median age of women veterans is 51 years, a difference of 14 years. #veteran #military #veteransday #women #airforce #navy #marines #army #spaceforce #coastguard #nationaldefense #leadership #empowerment
