The CLF Embodied Carbon Toolkit for Roadway Infrastructure is one of several CLF’s Toolkit series that serve as abstract references for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers that are collectively targeted at understanding, estimating, and reducing embodied carbon within the context of buildings and infrastructure.

Extreme weather is impacting the quality and performance of Victorian roads. Yet, road materials such as sand and hard rock to fix potholes and other defects are getting harder to obtain as this Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Stateline report highlights. Research and development of alternative materials comprising of constructions / demolition waste and recycled glass becomes even more important. University of Technology Sydney has taken the lead in this three-year, SmartCrete co-funded research project with QLD Department of Environment, Science and Innovation and Scenic Rim Regional Council to investigate the feasibility of using these recycled materials as sub-base of sealed roads and base of unsealed roads. Good to speak to Jane Garvey and Fi Glover this afternoon of Times Radio about hot homes, how we'll make sure Labour's 1.5m new homes are fit for climate change, and how existing homes are upgraded: A few points: ✅ Great that we've got Part O Building Regs, but we'll need planners that have the knowledge and capacity to enforce ✅ Government funded retrofit programmes like SHDF need to include measures to combat heat as well as cold, like external shutters ✅ Anyone working in construction should have a basic knowledge of how heat and moisture move through buildings - this should be part of vocational qualifications and upskilling ✅ Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards for the private rented sector must consider overheating as well as protecting from the cold.
