When you seek out underrepresented causes, and choose to support them with resources, time, or funds, you are ensuring that their voices, perspectives, and needs are being heard. Friday - Community Engagement - Construction Inclusion Week As this week comes to an end the final theme is Community Engagement. Community Engagement in construction means informing and involving all affected stakeholders around your building site to create awareness. This includes some key factors such as: ▪ Imagine how the project might impact the district’s daily routine.  ▪ Be proactive when communicating ▪  Implement traffic flow solutions and noise reduction tactics to mitigate inconveniences. Most importantly when it comes to Community Engagement when in doubt, treat people the way you want to be treated. I couldn't think of a better way to end Construction Inclusion Week. Although this phrase applies to every industry it nicely summarises what inclusion is all about. Next week (25 Sept to 1 October) is National Inclusion Week 2023, and the theme this year is “Take action, Make impact”! National Inclusion Week is an opportunity for employers across the country to stop and take stock of how welcoming and inclusive they are. As a charity that wants to promote inclusion, we think this is a great opportunity for employers of all shapes and sizes to reflect on what they offer potential and existing employees, as well as recognise the benefits of employing people from different cultures, beliefs, ages, socio economic backgrounds, or people with neurodiverse traits or people with disabilities. Our work throughout the year, and showcased during our Wyntercon event, seeks to create a more inclusive and welcoming space in our local communities. Amazing to hear speakers talking about co-design, co-production and co-creation across different strands and themes at #Housing2024, including with Kate Roberts in the #CollaborationHub. Much of this driven by #AwaabsLaw across the whole conference. Good to hear Kate encouraging a proactive approach, and highlighting the disservice many ethnic minorities receive by a lack of proactivity. 🙏🏾 Kate. Encouraging what might seem like a ‘risk’ and delving into what can be uncomfortable territory for #ukhousing. But highlighting the positive outcomes for #placemaking, #inclusiveness, #community #engagement, and transformation by approaching challenges via different paths and through different lenses.

Community engagement is not about what you can gain, but what you can offer to First Nations communities. The focus should be on serving the community’s immediate concerns and long-term aspirations. Ask yourself: How can you be of service to these needs? How can you design and deliver truly relevant and beneficial services to the First Nations communities you aim to engage with? Effective engagement requires deep understanding of the community's unique context and priorities. By prioritising their voices and working collaboratively, we can create meaningful and impactful solutions that respect and uplift First Nations peoples.
