Alright, now that I've had some time to finally sit down, I'd like to talk about Vertiq and what they have done in the video below..... This is Swashplate-Less Cyclic...It allows cyclic control without the need for servos and linkages. It uses very fancy motors and supreme control to pulse the motors at a specific point in time for a very specific duration in order to generate a change in pitch of the blade....IT'S ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZING. If you are a mechanical geek like me, it's incredibly fascinating to see. One of the reasons why Multirotors became so popular was their simplicity, not exactly their efficiency. CP heli's and the like are much more efficient machines, but it comes at the cost of complexity. This, helps solve that issue, and really does help bridge a GAP between tradition Collective Pitch heli's and Multirotors. This is to me is exciting, this to me is innovation and all this does is drive our industry forward. While what you see in the video is a demonstration, hopefully in time, this is perfected and we will start seeing this kinda stuff more and more. #SeilerGeoDrones #SeilerGeoSpatial #Vertiq #Innovation

It has been a major honour to be an invited speaker on this panel. It was a pleasure to share with industry and the other NCAP’s how the accident investigation report “Who is in control” by the Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid, has shaped the Dutch approach on putting human factors and responsible innovation on the agenda at the UNECE and at Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks. It was great to have such an interested audience for the important work that is currently being done by the magnificent experts of Euro NCAP’s HMI&HF Working Group. To be able to emphasise the importance of it being very clear for a human driver what their role and responsibility is when driving an ADAS-equipped car. That continued driver engagement with the driving task is key. And that we should not rely on the manual: it needs to be clear by design! This is why we are working towards a brand overarching mental model, that - by means of the HMI - makes it clear to the driver in which mode the car is: whether it is assisted driving hands-on, assisted driving hands-off or automated driving mode. Furthermore I had the opportunity to shed some more light on the “Bring Back Buttons” catchphrase. Euro NCAP seeks to avoid that drivers are distracted merely because they are operating their car. Touchscreens demand taking your eyes off the road, if you wish to operate them. This may lead to unnecessarily long glances away from the road. The General Vehicle Controls protocol therefore assesses 1) how controls are operated and 2) their ease of use. The whole point of this is to facilitate safe driving practices and to prevent distraction, by design. The first arguments for transforming tires into vehicle "gadgets" (smart tires) are their environmental impact and outdated tire business model. Making more tires will not help us in the long term. Smartization, tracing, retreading, reusing, and recycling of tires might help. I think having better tires is impossible using the current virtual development technology and engineering mindset, which originated in the '70s. There needs to be a true revolution related to how we engineer the tires and make them more intelligent as systems for vehicles. But this does not happen overnight without significantly upgrading tire technology development approaches and without significant investments. I feel that a critical mass is forming, the new tire industry experts, leading to that revolution. Stay tuned. #tiredevelopment, #tiresimulation, #smarttires

Here’s a quick question for you. How do you test a G-Class? With another G-Class, of course!   That’s exactly what we’ve done in this film. You’ll be magically transported back to the 1980s when you see the legendary G280 GE tackling an off-road course alongside a prototype of the new, all-electric G-Class.   There’s a twist because this is no ordinary vehicle test. It takes place on the mighty Schöckl mountain trail – a treacherous, 5.6km gravel track in Austria with 60-degree gradients, brutal terrain and stomach-churning drops to the valley below. Every #MercedesBenz G-Class has to reach the top of the Schöckl before it’s passed for series production. So the race to the 1,445-metre summit is crucial.   Naturally, both vehicles conquered the climb with ease and have the badge on the inside of the A-pillar to prove it. They are what we call “Schöckl-proof”.   This is just the start of the story. Part two of our G-Class testing series is set in the 1990s. I’ll share it with you soon.
