Parents of seniors trying to create an FSA ID to help your student complete their FAFSA: If you keep getting stuck on Step 3, it is a known issue. The workaround is to leave your address fields blank. You can then progress through all 7 steps. After your account is created, you can go back in to fill out your address.

I'm not just talking about revenue numbers. Are you checking cancellations, no shows, and attendance numbers? Are you monitoring your expenses? I love the discount section at Target for therapy materials but I have to regulate that line item in my budget. As Chip Merlin and I have discussed at several recent Property Loss Appraisal Network (P.L.A.N.) and IAUA training sessions, some umpires are charging absolutely outrageous “fixed fees” for their services. Some of the fixed fee invoices recently coming across my desk are, in my view, grossly excessive and arguably unethical (don't both PLAN and IAUA have codes of ethics for their members?). There is no way an umpire is going to actually work the number of hours they are estimating to justify the extremely high fixed fees they are charging. The parties to the appraisal process should stop agreeing to these excessive fixed fees. And even worse, some umpires are charging fixed fees based on the size of the “claim variance” at the beginning of the appraisal process. See the attached. Chip and I agree -- This is wrong. The size of a dispute does not determine the number of hours it will require to handle the appraisal process. A small appraisal could be hotly contested and require a lot of time. A large appraisal could turn on one simple issue and require only a small amount of time. Further, why should umpires charge more when they are court appointed? There is no reason for such a distinction. Can we all agree that umpires should bill their time at a reasonable hourly rate? Plain and simple. They should keep track of their time. They should bill the parties for their time and any expense incurred. The only exception would be a small residential matter where a flat fee could be appropriate.

The Department of Education has released an update on reprocessing ISIRs with the most common FAFSA issues. Those missing SAIs, as well as those missing the verification tracking groups, have now been reprocessed. ISIRs reprocessed because of one of these two issues can be identified with a reprocessing code of 04 or 08. Financial aid administrators can read more here: https://lnkd.in/e-pYwmgY An additional issue was identified in which an incorrect value was being used for applicants’ Earned Income Credit. This resulted in some applicants not being correctly identified as single parents, which could potentially impact their eligibility for a maximum Pell award.
