According to National College Attainment Network (NCAN), 2024-25 FAFSA completion rates for HS seniors are down 40% compared to this time last year in 2023. The U.S. Dept. of Education, Federal Student Aid an Office of the U.S. Department of Education, Congress and The White House need to take a more aggressive action to address this FAFSA completion crisis, which will have knock-on effects on postsecondary enrollment, retention, and higher ed institution revenues. Since the 2020 pandemic and our economic recession, millions of students have decided to forgo higher education or were forced to stop-out due to financial concerns. This enrollment crisis impacts all Americans as we are losing a generation of brilliant minds who could have become our next doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, pilots, civic leaders, lawyers, entrepreneurs, tech innovation leaders and much more. Equitable access to higher education should never be a partisan issue. A nation that does not prioritize the education of its citizens is morally bankrupt. Every legislator and government official bears responsibility for failing the American people, especially our youth and young adults, in accessing critical funding for the pursuit of higher education. May I propose a better solution to increase FAFSA submission rates? Publicly apologize to the American people on national TV and gift $5k to every student who enrolls/matriculates for Fall 2024. Disburse the funds as direct payments to students like HEERF was administered, after each college's add/drop deadline. Watch the FAFSA completion rates jump up drastically when you pair an apology with financial restitution. How about an even more audacious proposal? Take the steps named above AND replace all Federal Direct Loans (except Parent PLUS) for 2024-25 with a one-time grant of the same value for every student. It's unconscionable to have students take loans this year when our government failed to do its job. #FAFSA #FAFSAFastBreak #CollegeAdmissions #FinancialAid #HigherEducation

Dear Retirement Funds and investment industry stakeholders, I have the pleasure of sharing with you the 2023 National Fund for Municipal Workers (NFMW) Intergrated report https://lnkd.in/dXBY9DfF Also, take a look at the 3-minute video with highlights for the period under review (shared under this post). I remember in 2021, the Board of Trustees of NFMW/Fund made a decision that the Fund would not be participating in industry recognition awards, where the Fund has to make a submission to the awarding body, such as industry associations/bodies, for assessment and evaluations of “entries” in order to give the award/recognition. This decision came at the back of so many awards that NFMW had received in previous years, with the last of these awards coming from the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa, recognising NFMW as the overall winner(best in class award) for governance across retirement funds in South Africa. So, after having received many of these awards and accolades, the Fund consciously decided to focus on serving its members and transforming their lives without the expectation of being recognised after the application of some evaluation matrix by the awarding institution. It is only now that I came across this statement by Rhodes University regarding the “university rankings”, which can be likened to these industry recognition awards: https://lnkd.in/dN4ymubv NFMW will focus on what we believe is important to & for our members: superior value proposition for our members, transforming the lives of our members & their beneficiaries, positively impacting our members and society, without expectation of recognition; we are serving. Our members and society will receive the “awards” from and for our efforts. That is why you may not have seen NFMW represented at the industry awards ceremonies over the last two years, and it will be so going forward (or until the Board changes its view on the matter). We also recognise that many other retirement funds are doing excellent work but have never received an award(s); thank you for the job you are doing for your members. To those retirement funds that need help, please reach out to those who have already done what you are thinking of doing. Enjoy your holiday season, and have a merry Christmas and all the best for the new year. Apologies for the long post; I know the holiday season has already started for some😅😅

Our Board of Trustees is entirely voluntary and our funding small, but I am really proud of the progress we have made in the last 18 months to build bridges with minority communities and community partners in order to understand the diverse experiences of life in Jersey - especially from those whose voices are not usually heard - and to positively influence progress and inclusion. And we are really excited about the opportunities we have to make a real and lasting difference in the community over the next 18 months through the various projects on our agenda. 🙌In our report, we acknowledge and celebrate some of the excellent work that is happening on our island to eliminate discrimination and enable inclusion. ⚠️But we fire some warning shots too - particularly around the poverty gap, inequality & inequity, including at its worst degree rascism, experienced by some in our migrant communities, and the need to safeguard our island against the rising tide of global populism and far right influences. 💛The JCRT is a safe space for anyone who would like to share their story and experiences of inclusion in Jersey and we would love to hear from you, as well as community groups who share our aims and may like to explore opportunities to partner with us.
