A plant will only grow as big as the environment it is in. Right now, less than 4% of Black-owned businesses have a team behind them (McKinsey report 2023) In the past year, I have observed that Black entrepreneurs have been getting a lot of support with starting their businesses but now we need to start thinking about how to scale these businesses 🎯 The answer to this, I think, is building strong teams. This Black history month you will not see me as often as you usually do. Like in my photo, last year I was on multiple panels a week with my comrades, delivering keynotes and promoting the inspiring work we do at Nobellum. The first few weeks of the Consultrepreneurship program have been transformative. (Anyone who knows me personally can tell just how much I've changed in the course of three weeks.) During our orientation session, we dived deep into the significance of African history, a topic that is often overlooked yet unmistakably crucial. Understanding our history is not just about honoring the past; it’s about providing context for our present and learning from it how to shape a better future. African history isn't as widely recognized or taught as it should be, even and perhaps especially among Africans. This neglect can lead to a disconnect from our roots and a diminished sense of identity. The Consultrepreneurship program through its orientation has made very clear the importance of reclaiming and celebrating our heritage, reminding us that our history is rich, diverse, and full of lessons that are vital for our growth and unity. I am incredibly grateful to have found a community within this program that feels like home. It’s empowering to know that my struggles are shared and that we are all in this together, supporting and uplifting each other. This sense of solidarity and collective strength is what being part of the African diaspora is truly about. I look forward to learning even more as the program progresses. The journey so far has been enlightening, and I am excited for the knowledge and experiences yet to come. What an amazing way to create future leaders to build futures that honor our legacy. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. 🚀 Being a Black/African American Founder: There’s No Script, You MUST Operate by Faith & Not by Sight 🚀 As a young black founder, you MUST go over and beyond. Now this is the case for every founder of course, but challenges are still in place today, and the hurdles are taller. Simply put, the number of black founders, successful ones are very slim, so essentially there is no room for error. Partnership opportunities are van guarded, and for this reasons and many more faith is so important. Every day is a new adventure with no predefined path. You must be adaptable, ready to pivot under any circumstances. It’s about being an innovator, constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Leadership isn’t just a title; it’s a commitment to guiding your team through uncharted waters, inspiring and motivating them every step of the way. And hard work? That’s the foundation. It’s the relentless drive to keep going, even when the going gets tough.
