We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us in Rancho Bernardo over the weekend for our second #WildfireSafety Fair of the year. For the first time, we held our event in The City of San Diego, expanding from our tradition of organizing it only in high wildfire threat districts. This shift underscores our belief that safety is a shared responsibility that extends beyond district boundaries. Attendees walked away not only with valuable emergency preparedness information but also with complimentary emergency kit supplies. We invite you to join us at our next event on Saturday, July 13, in Alpine. Learn more at sdge.com/fairs. 🎒

Listen to Sebastien Burkhardt, Co-founder of Clore, as he discusses their innovative approach to wildfire defense in an exclusive interview with Fire and Safety Journal Americas (FSJA). "For many communities we work with, the people have spent most of their lives in their homes and will stop at nothing to protect them... We want to allow people to get to safety and still have the chance to have a home to come back to." Five years ago, following the development of a Wildfire Mitigation Committee and comprehensive report, the City of Laguna Beach began implementing the Genasys Inc. outdoor warning system. Utilizing a mixture of grant and general fund money, they have now built out a redundant outdoor warning system network city-wide that provides clear instructions, becoming one of the first cities to implement this technology. The outdoor warning speakers have been successfully used by the city on several incidents including wildfires and storms. Other cities should take note and consider redundent systems to help notify the public during emergency events.

As part of my work as the Cal Cities representative to the State’s Wildfire Mitigation Committee today I am attending a demonstration project in Sacramento. Sponsored by Cal Fire and the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. Side by side comparison of a structure that allows wood chips, plant material, open eaves and wooden fencing within 0 - 5 feet of the structure and another structure which is completely hardscaped in the 0 - 5 feet area. Startlingly different outcomes.

The Fourth of July is just around the corner and the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public firework show put on by professionals. If you are setting fireworks off at home, follow these safety steps: *Never give fireworks to small children, and never throw or point a firework toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials. *Always follow the instructions on the packaging. *Keep a supply of water close by as a precaution. *Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection. *Light only one firework at a time and never attempt to relight "a dud." *Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from children and pets. Be sure to stay hydrated while attending Fourth of July activities. #IndependenceDay #fireworks #FireworksSafety
