NCDA Day 3 - I think I’ll miss you most of all. After moderating a roundtable discussion, I attended Xue Sherry Zou’s phenomenal session on professional development, then thoroughly enjoyed the awards luncheon, where the City of Quincy received the Community Development Week Award, as well as the inaugural CDBG Longevity Award, in partnership with Manet Community Health Center, Inc. We were joined by two legends - Ellen Hafer and Peg O’Connor. We also celebrated the esteemed Shirletta Best with a standing ovation in recognition of her tremendously successful term as President of NCDA. Okay, Salt Lake - the gauntlet has been thrown. See you there next June!

Social and community participation is important because it can: Help you feel included and connected to others. Give you opportunities to build relationships with friends. Grow your social networks and help you feel more included. Everybody needs a champion and good role models who are non-judgemental. Volunteering in the. community helps Improve citizens' knowledge and skills in problems. This journey, is teaching me to be respectful, use active listening and good communication skills. Greater community knowledge allows me to see multiple sides of the problem and opportunities especially when working with women and young people. #domesticfamilyandsexualharassment,

#CommunityAwards
Increasingly it is about working smartly across all sectors to help address the plethora of challenges communities are facing. Below are some good examples
Catalyzing Post-Traumatic Growth & Equitable Systems
I focus on creating restorative programs that spark post-traumatic growth for people and communities. My work centers on bridging divides to empower humans to thrive.
Food insecurity is a growing concern across Pinellas County. We are honored to work with Daystar Life Center, Inc. through our #projecttryton initiative.
According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2020 study, which used data from 2018:
Pinellas County:
- Food insecurity rate: 12.2% (124,430 people)
- Child food insecurity rate: 19.1% (38,080 children)
Hillsborough County:
- Food insecurity rate: 12.6% (178,820 people)
- Child food insecurity rate: 19.5% (61,600 children)
It's important to note that these numbers are from before the COVID-19 pandemic, which likely exacerbated food insecurity in these counties and across the United States. Feeding America projected that the overall food insecurity rate for the United States could have reached up to 15.6% in 2020 due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

At Forward Ability Support we are always looking at how we can improve outcomes for those that we support including supporting research into SCI and the associated conditions.
Recently a member of our team Keith McNaughton met residents, staff and clinicians at Ferguson Lodge, run by Forward Ability Support It was a great opportunity to meet everyone, give an update on our current trials and studies, and to invite everyone to participate in exciting research. Thanks to Sharis Matevossian Doumit (Community Engagement Manager) and Sarah (Director of Home and Living Supports) for hosting the morning and particularly the residents for meeting with us.
How do effective cross-sector partnerships leverage the collective intelligence, creativity and resilience of local stakeholders working for a common cause?
We need a bold, radical, preventive approach with a focus on #community, connectedness and what we can do for each other.
Our Healthy Communities Together (HCT) partnership in #Coventry, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and alongside learning partner The King's Fund, is bringing the whole system together to address #HealthInequalities.
This new video, filmed over the summer, provides a snapshot of some of this work - initially happening in the Willenhall neighbourhood with a plan to expand the most effective practice to other parts of the city grappling with persistent health inequalities.
"If you're fed up with business as usual, if you're fed up with crisis after crisis and having to deal with emergency, then make some space to come and talk to healthy communities in Coventry about how we can get upstream, how we can tackle the real causes of those emergencies.
"That is about community, it's about connectedness, it's about what we can do for each other," says Grapevine CEO Clare Wightman.
Meet Clare and other members of the HCT partnership in the film:
👩⚕️ Local GP Sarah Raistrick
🏥 Public health consultant Valerie
📋 Programme manager Debbie
🔥 Community organiser Edwin
🤝 Community worker Andrea, and critical to the partnership's impact;
❗ Active Willenhall residents, Matt and Dorothy.
More about Willenhall, the four other test sites and how this national programme is exploring the ability of #collaborative partnerships to overcome their challenges and tackle complex health problems here: https://bit.ly/49gtwtk
Thanks to The King's Fund for our film 🙏 #ShiftingPower#SystemsChange
Our community of cross-sector HCT stakeholders is made up of Grapevine, Coventry City Council, NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.
