How do you want to be remembered? We're living our legacies every day. Treat the junior employee with the same respect as you'd treat the CEO of the company. Because the reality is, you never know when the tables will turn and it'll be you needing help. In case anyone forgot, it was Maya Angelou who said "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Above all, let's just be decent human beings. 'Work' is a small blip in our lives. And never forget: your work title doesn't define you. Know your worth and don't settle for less. To all the juniors out there, you got this! Keep going. To all the leaders out there, ask yourself "How have I been showing up for my team lately?" I'd encourage you to ask your team this: "How do you experience me?" And if you're too scared to ask that question, maybe it's time for a look in the mirror and do a little soul-searching. It's normal to get consumed in titles and status games, but always be sure to check in with yourself to get grounded and remember your 'why'. Is it status? Or is it something bigger? If you’re having an argument, sometimes it’s better to be wrong. It means you’ve learnt something new. Another way of looking at it is this: Pride is about who is right. Humility is about what is right. If you’re having an argument with someone, why are you both doing it? Is it to prove that one of you is right? Or is it to find out truths, together. Often when people are arguing it looks like they are more interested in “being right”, in winning the argument. That’s an ego thing. An alternative is to treat an argument as a joint effort to find out truths. That’s a humility thing - that process of discovery is more important than some idea of who is the winner. Arguing to discover truths together is a constructive thing. Arguing to prove I am right isn’t really. Perhaps this view of things could be adopted more in political debate. #argument #truth #pride #humility

SORRY "Sorry" is a simple word with significant impact when expressed sincerely. In every human interaction, there exists the potential for conflict. In such moments, do we retreat to our corners, deny our faults, or do we strive for understanding? Regardless of the path chosen, the word "sorry" holds immense power. It can disarm opponents and soothe turbulent emotions. Some may perceive "sorry" as a sign of weakness, but I disagree. It embodies the courage to remain humble and extend a hand to mend what's broken. "Sorry" possesses the ability to bridge divides and foster empathy. A genuine apology builds trust and reveals inner strength of character. However, there are instances when "sorry" loses its value: repeated transgressions and hollow words devoid of corresponding action. Despite these pitfalls, when "sorry" is uttered with sincerity and genuine intent, it stands as a beacon of humility and a catalyst for positive change.

Day 358, 22nd November 2023: Acting Differently From Others. Success can take many forms and it is often about standing out from the crowd or being above average, spotting when the crowd moves one way and making sure that you move the other. Nigel Cumberland It takes guts to stand out from the crowd and move the other way when, deep down, you know that it’s you who’s truthfully right and not everyone else. Even if you’re a self-disciplined, mentally tough person, it’s still hard to go against the crowd. For this reason, one of the most powerful exercises you can do to improve your chances of acting differently from others when you know that you’re right is to practice holding your ground. If somebody tells you to do something in a given way but you don’t understand why, ask them to explain their request. If the explanation isn’t sufficient, suggest a different way of doing things that you think might be better. Note that this isn’t about confrontation for the sake of confrontation or this isn't insubordination or being disrespectful to leadership in anyway. It’s an exercise in questioning doing things in a given way just because “that’s how they’ve been done until now,” but nobody knows why. This way, you get to learn (on a small scale) how it feels when you’re opposing the current, and this experience will help you hold your ground when the stakes are higher. Always allow your conscience and the word of God to take ultimate supremacy when acting differently. Be guarded by the Holy spirit.
