As we go into the holiday week coming up where temperatures are still high and there will likely be swimming in some people's near future, I want to take a moment and go over some safety measures everyone needs to practice. With the recent tragedy of a young teen that just died this week while swimming in our waterways, please always take these safety measures to heart while enjoying the outdoors. - Always swim with a buddy - Never leave children alone near water - Only swim in areas that have been declared safe to do so - If at all possible, try to swim where there's a lifeguard - MOST IMPORTANTLY: If your on open water where you cannot see the bottom (anything other than a pool essentially) always wear a lifejacket or life vest! Life vests are low profile floatation devices that are comfortable, inexpensive, and could potentially save the life of you or your kids. You don't have to be on a boat to wear them, you should do it anytime you're swimming in open water. This will ensure that, IF something happens, you won't go down permanently. PLEASE be safe while on the water and take the appropriate precautions. I hate seeing the calls go out for water rescue and it's even more tragic when it's a kid, someone's kid. Please equip anyone on the water with a lifesaving vest of some sort, even if it's a low profile one when your on the beach. They aren't that expensive and could save your family. 🌞🏊♂️ Summer Swim Safety Tips for Kids! 🏊♀️🌞 Today is National Swimming Pool Day. What better day to talk about swim safety? As the weather heats up, many families head to the pool, beach, or lake for some fun in the sun. Or maybe your nanny family has a pool themselves that they go to in the neighborhood or at home. Here are some essential swim safety tips to ensure your little ones stay safe while enjoying the water: 💦Supervise Constantly: Always keep a close eye on children when they're in or near water. No distractions! 💦Learn CPR: Knowing CPR can be a lifesaver in emergency situations. As a registered nanny with our agency, our families require you keep your CPR up-to-date. Check your certification and sign up for a class if it expires soon. Encourage parents to take CPR with you also to be ready as a collective household. 💦Swim Lessons: Encourage parents to enroll children in swim lessons to help them become more confident and skilled swimmers. You could offer to take the children to swim lessons as well. 💦Use Life Jackets: Ensure kids wear life jackets when boating or swimming in open water. 💦Hydrate & Protect: Keep kids hydrated and apply waterproof sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun. 💦Establish Rules: Set clear rules for swimming, such as no running near the pool, no diving in shallow water, and always swimming with a buddy (like yourself!) 💦Check Water Conditions: Before swimming in natural bodies of water, check for strong currents, tides, or other hazards. 💦Keep Safety Equipment Handy: Have rescue equipment, such as a life ring or reaching pole, nearby. This is important to discuss with parents to make sure you are all prepared at the pool or beach you are at. Let’s make this summer fun and safe for everyone! 🏖️☀️ #SummerSafety #SwimSafety #KidsSafety #WaterFun #HealthySummer #NationalSwimmingPoolDay #WaterSafetyIsImportant #KeepKidsSafe

I believe my LinkedIn colleagues have little concern in finding their next meal! Not so for many others... I am swimming around Manhattan Island (46 km) - The 20 Bridges Swim, to raise $'s for OzHarvest. Can you believe each $1 will result in 2 meals. I'll take that $1 if you're willing and it goes direct to the charity. It's easy, it's a tax deductible and i want you on my swim team. The link: https://lnkd.in/gMbBZ55n Background: For me New York awaits with a two-fold opportunity to provide much needed meals for vulnerable people and complete one of the worlds iconic marathon open water swims. The 20 Bridges Swim is a 46km (28.5-mile) circumnavigation around the island of Manhattan via the East River, Harlem River, and Hudson River, under its 20 bridges. 'New York Open Water', conducts the swim annually between July & September for those that qualify. A key attraction is that it's part of open-water swimming’s prestigious Triple Crown, along with the English Channel and Catalina Channel. Having completed the English Channel in Sept 2022, by completing 20 Bridges this will be the 2nd jewel in that Crown. The 22 Sept is my date to plunge into The Hudson River from Pier A and start down the East River, within 2.5 kms of the 1st of the bridges – The Brooklyn Bridge. Distance aside, each of the rivers provides its own unique set of challenges. The East River can be difficult depending on the tide and wind, while the Harlem River is warmer but a head current. The Hudson River proves to be the most difficult due to choppy conditions and increased boat activity and some 200 ferry’s operating daily. The first swim around Manhattan Island was in 1915 by Robert Dowling. Todate some 1430 swimmers have finished in its 109-year history and 331 swimmers have achieved the Triple Crown. In finishing this swim, I will set a world age-group record. It’s a rare few that get to see all of Manhattan Island from their rivers! Sporting the Aon logo for his swims around the globe, Peter’s target for this swim is $3000 for OzHarvest that will provide 6,000 meals for vulnerable people in our local communities. “I like the challenge of it, and with my swims I want to see how far I can push myself whilst knowing I can support a good cause. A bigger purpose than myself, fund raising gives me more to think about when in the water. For every kilometer I swim that means 130 meals that will be delivered.

May is Water Safety Month, and as we look forward to enjoying the warm weather and fun water activities, it's crucial to prioritize safety for everyone. 🌊 Whether you're at the pool, beach, or lake, here are a few essential tips to ensure a safe water experience: Supervise Children: Keep a close watch on children when near water, even if they are proficient swimmers. Wear Life Jackets: Life jackets save lives. Ensure everyone wears a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, especially non-swimmers and children. Learn to Swim: Basic swimming skills can significantly increase water safety. Consider enrolling in swimming lessons if you haven't already. Stay Within Designated Swimming Areas: Only swim in areas designated for swimming and have lifeguards present. Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol impairs judgment and swimming ability. Stay sober when you're involved in water activities. Let's all do our part to make this summer fun and safe. Remember, being prepared and cautious can prevent accidents and ensure that our water adventures leave us with good memories. 🏊♂️💦 📍789 Grand Caillou Road Houma, LA 70363 ☎️ (985) 876-4410 #watersafetymonth #swimmingsaveslives #goodneighbor #statefarm #houma #houmainsurance #louisiana #louisianainsurance #daltonleblancinsurance #youragentdaltonleblanc

🦄Self-Employed Provider 💻INQUIRE using website link below 🛟Water Safety & Swim Coach 💟Mission Based 📍Sarasota, Bradenton & Surrounding Areas
💜 A BIG shoutout goes to my new swim client allll the way from up North‼️ He’s been in swimming lessons but they weren’t seeing the results. But in just 6 consecutive sessions (on vacation), he is more confident in the water, he demonstrated proper breath exchange at his level, he is comfortable in the swimmers position on a pool noodle, his favorite is the “monkey crawl” which is an important safety tech., AND after much resistance, he cooperated in the back glide/back float position with assistance. 💜 I was asked to move up North until he learned to swim but I can’t because of you‼️ 🏊🏼Everyone can learn to swim but at a different pace. Some people are faster learners while others need time to adjust. 💦 Be relentless no matter the external circumstances and internal emotions! 💦 Be consistent in well doing! 💦 Be optimistic about yourself, your dreams and desires! 💦 Be delusional about your dreams for it’s only delusion until it is done! 💦 Be obedient in the process for obedience is greater than sacrifice! Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. #mindsetshift #seasonofpeace #family #love #dreams #reality #obedience #swimcoach #swimlife #swimlessons #swimmingpool #swimpartnership #learntoswim #trusttheprocess #natashasnurturingnest #natashasnurturingnestllc #watersafety #poolsafely #communitypool #everychildaswimmer #sarasotamom #bradentonmoms #newswimprogram #comingsoon

Transitioning Kids from Floaties to Unassisted Swimming As kids improve their aquatic skills in swim lessons, it soon becomes time to wean them off flotation devices like water wings and floaties. But this transition can be challenging without the security that these devices provided. Despite the initial fear of change, here are some tips for a smooth progression: - Start by deflating devices slightly to begin diminishing the support. - Only use aids in the shallow end to keep developing confidence. - Hold their hands directly beneath them at first to simulate support. - Demonstrate proper kicking technique that promotes floating. - Try assisted floating by holding them horizontally while they paddle. - Utilize fun blow-up toys initially vs. swim aids to detach the need for flotation. - Offer abundant encouragement and praise for any progress made. - Remind them you’re right there if needed, but they can do it! - If struggling, take a break rather than forcing it. Try again next lesson. Making the shift requires patience as kids adapt. But soon you’ll have a proud goggle-clad fish zipping around the pool! How did you wean your child off of swim aids? Please share your experience and tips below.
