Becoming a dad now puts a whole new perspective on life. My main goal in life now is to be the best dad that I can be and, and to teach Theo how to be a good person and how to be a good human being. In transitioning from a dad to an athlete is is easy because you know, during the game, after the game, whenever I start feeling a little bit nervous, I just think about going home to him and being a dad. These buttons. Going to make some oatmeal with my diabetes. I've gotten into like a good routine of. You know what I like to eat before games? Trying to make sure my blood sugar is in the right spot or my closest meal of the game. I like to eat a little bit lighter just to feel like almost hungry when when the game starts. I would rather feel like that than super full. But 4th Theo is a lot of sitting on the couch watching TV getting ready for the game. But now it's hanging out with him and Eliza and Maisie and I like it. I feel like sometimes, like on game day, especially the later games, the days are so long and. And you kind of run out of things to do. But since he's come around, it helped pass the time and makes game day a little bit more fun and. That's a lot of stuff in perspective. So many amazing parts about being a dad that I'm super grateful for, but since he's come along, I just play with more freedom on the field. You can wear this later and be daddy's. Good luck, Charlie, right? What do you want to look yourself in the mirror? Who's that? Hmm. You did a good job. It's 6 minutes past his out. You know, I always dreamed of of having my kid at the games and for that to, to be a reality now is is really special for myself and for Eliza. I did this drive so many times as a kid, not doing it as a. As a member of the team and living out my dream, it's it's pretty, it's still really special and and it's it's cool to kind of think back on that progression coming up from. Growing up on Mercer Island to, to going through and, and playing for local clubs here and as the stadium comes into view, I definitely get butterflies and, but it's, it's, it's excitement really is what it is. I, I never take. This opportunity that I have for for granted, I know the amount of times that you know, I have to to play in front of these fans that play for this for this club. I know it's gonna continue to go quickly. Did you have your surgery go OK? How are you? Good. How are you? That have been. Sounders soccer 50 years ago today began here in Seattle. Here we are 50 years later, about to watch the boys kick things off against the LA Galaxy. What a moment. What's an atmosphere we have in Seattle? Real pressure goes to new slips it in top of the box header by Jordan Morris straight into the arms and McCarthy forced to the ground. Rosnick and Chief Halo on it, sharp hollow, whips it up and then saved by McCarthy. And there's the referees. Whistle brings this game to a close. Chances of both teams in transition, but neither team could find the breakthrough. Another clean sheet for Stephen Fry. It's so nice for you to have that. Yeah, I remember my parents would like come in it. Every three hours in the middle of the night to prick my finger and all that kind of stuff. So the technology's been amazing. What do you wanna be when you grow up, buddy? That's awesome. That's great. You play soccer now. What's your favorite position? Look forward not you like to score the goals yeah, that's all me too. That's the best part. The foundation is incredibly important to myself and my family and we're still able to do, you know, some some great programs and for me that's still such an important part of life is giving back and for me I I like I said before, I feel like I was given type one for a reason, which is to hopefully be an inspiration and support to these kids that are that are going through what I went through. I understand the the the. Difficulties that that they're having and if I can be any source of inspiration to them and that's really important. That's something on the side that I still love to do after games. It's so important to take care of yourself, take care of your health with with type one, manage your blood sugar because it really sets you up for success in the areas of your life that you want to focus on when when my blood sugar is out of. You know, not in the in the right spot, it can affect me on the field, You know, I can become a little bit more irritable and, and, and for me, one of the main reasons now that I want to keep my blood sugar in the right spot is because I don't feel like myself when it's not. And, and I want to be the best dad that I can be for Theo. Obviously today was a frustrating result, but you, you come in and come out of locker room and see him and see him smiling and laughing and. Just puts everything in perspective. Obviously soccer is so important and what I love to do and yeah, and I have a ton of motivation to to keep accomplishing my goals. But he realized what's really important in life when you have a kid and. Really, I just want to be a good dad and a good husband and. Raise him well and so when when things aren't going your way or the team's way, it's it's really nice to come home to him. He doesn't care. Eliza and I went to high school together. We ran in different circles, so we didn't. I don't even know if we ever really talked in high school. We were in like one or two classes together. Yeah, but I was very shy then when I resigned in Seattle. Eliza was going to school with Santa Clara with my best friend, reached out to him and got her number from him and texted her. And I was planning to go on a trip to visit my buddy Jamie at Santa Clara. And I text Eliza saying I was going to come down and wanted to see if if she would want to grab dinner or go on a date or something. And when I went down we went on our one on our date and now we're and now we're here I think. For us, like we've always. Been a team and something that we treasure about our relationship is we're there for each other and are very supportive of each other. And like I mentioned, like I couldn't have gotten through that second. Knee injury without Eliza and just like the support that she gave me, made sure we got back home OK and was my nurse through the first month of rehab when I couldn't move and. I think we've always been that that team that supports each other and but that's only grown with having Theo and. Ohh, there you go. Getting heavy? He loves the swings. The routine used to be to come home and play Fortnite or Yeah. Play Fortnite or take a nap. And now it's come home and. Take this guy on a walk and take care of him. I could never. Because you took. I didn't realize it at the time, but when I think back on my relationship with my dad, it's. You know, he was so incredibly selfless and I want to be that for Theo that I'm always there for him, whatever he needs, sacrificing my time to, to be helpful to him and help him pursue his dreams and passions, whatever they are. So incredibly grateful for Eliza. And obviously as a, as a partner and a spouse, she's incredible. But what I've seen since she's become a mom is is amazing. And Theo and I are so incredibly lucky to to have her. I know everyone says it. She's the best mom and and again the one you and I are just so lucky to so lucky to have her. For the last time.
