It is always an enlightening and delightful experience to engage with local communities! The people of Pantai Bahagia Village, comprising dedicated men and women, have recognized the crucial importance of preserving the mangrove ecosystem for the coastal communities of the Citarum River estuary. We want to thank Zurich Indonesia for their collaboration with us in enhancing the skills of the Muaragembong community through valuable training programs and the provision of signal boosters. This support is instrumental in helping them market their mangrove-derived products to a broader audience. 😊 #LiveToConnect

Empowering Mangrove Farmers in Muara Gembong Muara Gembong is one of the estuaries of the Citarum Watershed, located in Bekasi, and has an important role for economic livelihood around there. However, the land conversion has caused erosion of nearly 15,46 m/year along the coastline of Muara Gembong and disappeared land of nearly 330,460 ha, threatening environment and economic livelihood there. In the past, fishermen around Muara Gembong could easily secure a catch, earning a minimum of Rp7 million daily. However, following the degradation of the mangrove ecosystem, fishing in the area became a significant challenge. This environmental damage also led to the loss of two neighborhood units due to tidal flooding. In 2013, the local community took a proactive stance to rehabilitate the mangrove ecosystem, which has since resulted in a gradual reduction of tidal flooding. This initiative has not only helped restore the environment but has also opened new economic avenues. The community now leverages the mangroves for tourism and produces a variety of processed mangrove food products. This transformation has attracted numerous visitors, generating a valuable economic boost for the residents. With the support from Z Zurich Foundation, Zurich Indonesia collaborates with Adira Finance and Sebumi, launched various initiatives of mangrove restoration and ecosystem preservation. One of which is to provide training on quality improvement and digital marketing to Pokdarwis Alipbata and Kebaya communities who innovatively create marketable products in using mangrove resources. This program aims to support the communities by enhancing their product through improved QC measures, with Kianto Atmodjo, Biotechnology Lecturer at Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University, and Reza Bayu Firmansyah, Conservation Lead at Sebumi. #ZurichIndonesia #BarengJadiLebih
