We're ready to continue tackling the challenges facing our rivers and streams in the new year. What will your support help us do in 2024? ☀️ Respond to Drought – we are developing a more comprehensive and standardized approach to boost flows for salmon when drought conditions strike. 🐟 Restore flows for fish – we are increasing flow for salmon, steelhead, and other species in key watersheds, including the Chehalis, Okanogan, and Walla Walla. 🌱 Develop New Sustainable Water Sources – we will partner with at least four farms for recycled water demonstration gardens, exploring this innovative water source as a sustainable alternative to Sammamish River water. 🌊 Advance Major Projects – we are finalizing projects that will protect more than 1 billion gallons of water instream in places like Icicle Creek and the Little Klickitat River. Thank you to everyone who helped us meet our recent $15,000 fundraising goal. A Board member will now match an additional $5,000 in donations made or pledged to WWT through New Year’s Day. Hands down, my favourite day of the WHOLE YEAR is the one where we sit together as a team and select charities to support. This year, we are proud to support six UK-based charities working to support and restore ecosystems and habitats. Our 1% for the Planet pledge means that we have committed to giving a minimum of 1% of revenue (not profits!) every year to environmental causes around the world. In a world where "doing the right thing" is often considered too inconvenient or too expensive, this is one way that we can give back. Supporting grass-roots charities in this way means so much to the charities, and to us as a company. I am really excited about Severn River Association's #oysterrestoration program this summer! It's kicking off next month in three big ways: 1) We are putting in 10 MILLION #oysters on our #restoration reef at Traces Hollow 2a with the help of our partners Oyster Recovery Partnership -- and with YOUR HELP (see the match grant alert below): https://lnkd.in/g9UgCMY7 2) Our #MarylandersGrowOysters program participants will be planting their home-grown oysters on a different area of Traces Hollow starting June 1. SRA has the largest MGO program with over 300 households growing oysters in cages off of docks/piers for nine months while the spat on shell grow big and strong enough for planting on a #reef. 3) With our boat Sea Girl finally repaired and back in the water, we will be fitting her with a newly designed instrument. Late this summer that instrument will pump oyster #larvae onto yet another #restorationreef for 'direct setting', a new technique that may be able to supplement (but not supplant) our other restoration techniques. Like every year, we've again donated "1% for the good"! We believe that companies, too, have a social responsibility for people and the environment. In addition to the unavoidable tax payments, we want to make more targeted contribution to support specific organizations. That's why we are proud to be a member of the international movement "Pledge 1%". We call our commitment “1% for the good”. Since many years, we estimate our annual sales at the end of November and then donate 1% to selected non-profit organizations. This year we have chosen the following organizations: * Förderkreis krebskranke Kinder e.V. Stuttgart - this association has been supporting children with cancer and their families during the treatment period and afterwards in the form of advice centers, family funds or accommodation since 1982 * Olgäle Foundation - This foundation for sick children has set itself the task of helping sick children and their parents at the Olgahospital Children's Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, called the “Olgäle”. * Doctors of the World - an international organization that provides emergency aid and development aid worldwide. They see their main task in supporting vulnerable population groups in crisis situations. * Jane Goodall Foundation - This is an international animal and conservation organization that seeks to improve the treatment and understanding of primates and protect their habitats. * WWF - whose mission is to stop the global destruction of nature and the environment and to shape a future in which people and nature live in harmony with one another. * Four Paws - for a world in which people treat animals with respect, compassion and understanding. Abuses are recognized and animals in need are rescued and protected. * Aktion Kinderschutz (Action for Child Protection) - This local association has been committed to preventing and clarifying abuse and violence against children for many years. * Electronic Frontier Foundation - is a non-governmental organization in the United States that advocates for fundamental rights in the information age. We also generally make all our software products available free of charge to recognized non-profit organizations.
